Sacller thanks for the reply. Just a couple of questions, are there channels on freesat that cannot be accessed via FTA? Secondly am I right in saying that I only need to disconnect my sd fta box and reconnect the HD box and attach to tv with hdmi to get hd channels, there is no additional wiring?

    thanks

No you will receive the same channels if you buy a combo box.
you will need a feed from an Aerial for the terrstrial channels

This is not a Freesat receiver, I asked a similar question here:

AFAIK you will get the exact same FTA channels as a Freesat receiver but you will not have an EPG, just "Now and Next".

The advantage is that you also have DTT, no Freesat/DTT combo at the moment.

to make full use of your new tv you will also need a blu ray player :D (ps3 will do )

this will give you the full 1080p HD signal, as opposed to the 1080i from broadcast hd.

Why not get a tv with freesat and MPEG 4 DTT built in?
