I've now finished licking my wounds from last week.. time to turn the attention to Aintree and try and recoup the losses.

I note most years that horses that have run well at cheltenam tends to follow up at Aintree, does anyone have any stats to prove/disprove this?

Anything you noted last week that you are expecting big things out of at Aintree?

Or how about horses that bypassed Cheltenham and go straight to Aintree with big hopes!!!?

    Please post your views/opinions here!!!?

    Cheers

No stats, but from personal experience following cheltenham form slavishly at Aintree will break you.

Often, its the horses that run fresh or target Aintree that have the advantage. Results like Ogee and Comhla Ri Coig beating the likes of Weapons Amnesty and Karabak last year happen each year. Solwhit and Fiveforthree battled out the Aintree hurdle when Celestial Halo bombed. Cheltenham horses/form shouldnt be avoided but its but its best to treat each race on its merits. A hard race at Cheltenham often leaves its mark.

You will hear discussion about the significant of the time between the festivals and its relation to how well cheltenham form works out.

Sorry should have been a bit clearer... what I meant was to that horses that run well (not necessarily those that win). I agree fully those that run a hard race at Cheltenham do well to well to follow that up at Aintree!!!

Looks like Denman could be running at Aintree.

I probably wont look too much at Aintree until nearer the time. Really need a bit of luck after Cheltenham though.

I got out of jail and somehow ended up with a profit thanks to Pigeon Island over Cheltenham, so need the rest before Aintree. Would generally agree with Morgans here. I always have a very good look at anything that avoided Cheltenham altogether. Only one that stands out for me would be Tattaniano at the moment. Does anyone know exactly why he was taken out of the Grand Annual? Ground?

    Tattaniano

    Ill be backing this..

It really pays to back against the Cheltenham Festival winners in Aintree, couldnt be any more differant (track ground) Cheltenham races are tough and nearly always leave a mark..

IMO you are looking at horses that did not get up the hill - this is a tight, flat, fast track but with a long straight. Horses like Starluck, Kalahari King, Consigliere which ran well in C'ham will have a better chance at Aintree if they run.

You really should be looking at good quality horses that by-passed C'ham and also course form is a big factor - especially with the Grand National - this points to horses like: Big Fella Thanks, Irish Raptor, Snowy Morning at the weights although I have backed the following ante post:

Ballyholland, Arbour Supreme, King Johns Castle, Big Fella Thanks and Offshore Account at big prices.

Irish Horses dont fare too well but some have a good record of running well: Al Eile, Schindlers Hunt are vets but can run well based on previous runnings at the track. I would respect any horse Willie Mullins sends over and if John Kiely sends over a horse for the bumper you must consider.

All you can do is wait for the enteries at this stage.

The 2m novice the last 2 years has proved very profitable for me. I lumped on the form horse (Tidal Bay in 08 & Kalahari King) against the Nicholls hype horse who was ludicrously short

just back from cheltenham, amazing! hoping to head to aintree, any ideas where we should book to stay, do ppl stay in the town or head back into liverpool after the races

This is a great festival and as good a craic as C'ham. You should look to stay in Liverpool City Center - places like Holiday Inn on Lime St, Marriott Hotel. Take the train each day to the track (5 min walk from Lime St) - it leaves you right at the track. Only place not to stay is the Adelphi - if they offer to give you money to stay... decline politely and run!!

Friday and Sat bedlam and would advise you to get to the track at least an hour and half before racing. You should be able to pay in at the turnstiles on Thurs and Friday but would advise trying to get a ticket for the GN in somewhere like the Princess Royal or Queen Mother stand.

All the craic is back in the city after racing - so I would advise that you head back.

Not going this year myself galwaygirl, but you would want to be sorting your hotel pretty soon. It will be around £200 per room per night at this stage. As someone else said, avoid the Adelphi for accomodation anyway. The late bar is ok in it though.

thanks a million, we had such great craic in Chelt, it's all me HA! hope aintree the same, booked flights der so will be over for the friday and saturday, thank for that info will try get somewhere now in liverpool, say we left it a bit late. All that left is the tatter will they be ok? we had club for chelt, I really think it didnt make much difference when your only going for the craic,

Tatts tickets are perfect - no problems there bar a bit of a sqeeze. Depending on whether you want to watch the racing and punt or socialise, there are good choices. Not for me but there is a huge equestrian centre converted into a massive bar with live music, large tv screens and tote outlets for the racing - mental in there. Outside, the scousers are good fun and like to drink - it can get messy as they are not a racing crowd like at C'ham. There is never any problems but the only word of warning is to watch out for pick pockets... enjoy
