VOIP for international calls, but need a permanent number

    Hi guys,

Hope one of you can help, I have a friend in a band who's at the moment making a lot of calls to L.A. He's currently using his home phone (& it's costing him a fortune - some of the calls can be over an hour).

I suggested to him that he should be able to use VOIP (without knowing all my facts). I suggested www.rebtel.com as one possibility or skype as another, but he needs to be able to have a permanent number he can be reached on.

Is there a service whereby he can rent a number for the duration of his needs, make calls on it that will be as good as (or better) than the phone line & also have voicemail (8 hour time difference). I suggested to him that there might be one that has a voicemail system that will email you an mp3 of the voicemail received.

He doesn't mind a (reasonable) subscription charge for the number & voicemail, but he's looking to save on the call charges (last phonebill was in excess of €600).

    Thanks in advance

At Blueface, we can provide him with unlimited calls to the USA (and more destinations, including IRL, UK and most western countries), an Irish number, a voicemail service (that sends wav files as attachment) for less than €25/month. The service is called Freedom World.
It's not tied to a contract so he can stop using the service (or downgrade it) as soon as he doesn't need it anymore.

I would recommend blueface, been a customer for a few years and very happy with the service.

Don't waste his time or complicate things with VOIP. Just use this site, cheapcalls.ie. You just call 1890 99 07 07 which is the cost of a local call and then dial the US number. No need for any subscriptions or additional equipment, it works from your home phone.

+1 for blueface, your frien can also get a local US number as well so the caller can also reduce costs.

Blueface is the dogs! He can call people from a geographic telephone number such as +35376xxxxxxx. If your friend has a mobile phone with wifi, he may be able to use it thorugh his mobile over local wifi, or else he could get a wifi or wired SIP phone to use the number, or use it through a laptop...

BTW GuillaumeBF - something I've been meaning to ask: in terms of people connecting in to sip.blueface.ie internationally, do you guys have to make any special arrangements to reduce latency? I'm just curious about it from a traffic engineering perspective...

We have many customers using our services from abroad and some of our staff is abroad too. They simply connect through the Internet.

We used to have an employee working from Australia and the latency was not noticeable during conversations.

If there was a lot of traffic from a specific country to us, I suppose we would look at something more advanced but so far it has not been necessary.
If you have a more detailed query, let us know : support@blueface.ie

    Thanks for recommending us btw
