    Hi Everyone,

Heading to China on the Trans-Mongolian Railway this summer. Intend on staying in China for at least a month with a possible trip to Japan and then head on to Vietnam via a bus from Hanning to Hanoi. So I will be getting a multiple entry visa.

Does anyone know of any way round the onward flight requirement for the Chinese visa because I dont have one and wasn't intending on getting one?

Have my Russian and Mongolian visa in the bag so all I need to sort now is China!

Appreciate any help you could give me!

    Holy Toleda

I went into China last summer from hong kong (flew to HK from Bali) entered China by train, spent a month floating around, left by bus from Nanning to Hanoi. at no point was I asked for onward flight info, either by the chinese embassey (got my visa in HK), or by border control. Either way, I didnt have an onward flight so couldnt prove it if I was asked. TBH I think this onward flight thing is a myth. I met a fair few people who entered like you on the Trans-Mongolian Railway, and left into vietnam.

They did have quite tight restrictions around the olympics, but thats all done and dusted. The only thing they were intrested in was taking my temperature about 25/30 times while on my travels! (they were freaked about swine flu!)

    I wouldnt worry

The OP can't get his visa in Hong Kong as he will be entering from Mongolia. I've just come from HK and it is very easy get Chinese Visas there.
I did the same trip last December and I had to book a flight to get my Chinese Visa in Ireland.

I booked the cheapest flight that I could find with AirAsia which was 40euro including all taxes and charges flying from Shenzhen to Bangkok.

If you can afford the time off work to visit the Embassy twice then I'd recommend you first try without having an onward flight booked and see if they'll give you the visa. If not then book the cheapest flight you can get and go back another day and get your visa.

I would worry about the onward flight issue. I travel regularly and do t think it's necessary. But they will not issue a multiple unless you've used up your 2nd or 3rd double entry.
If the onward thing is an issue then you can reserve china eastern flights over the phone to London (old school) without paying.

    Thanks for the responses everyone.

Do you know if it's necessary to have a booking for all the places we are staying... cause I wasn't planning on booking anything in advance?

    Thanks

    Holy Toledo!
