    Hi Tommy,
I had a .22 for about 10yrs and last year changed to a .17HMR, I use it for bunnies but you need to be careful on shot placement if you want to use the meat, this is no problem with the .17 as it is very accurate. If I come across a fox with it I can take down a fox out to about 100 yrds but it must be head, neck or shoulder shot. I would not have done this with the .22, just not enough power with the subsonic rounds I used.
I use two rifles, one for foxing (.220 Swift) and one for rabbit (.17hmr), in my opinoin they are two very diffefent jobs.
I presume you were on about the hmr (hornaday magnum rimfire) when refering to .17, if not I've not a clue about the remmington centerfire version, I've never used one.
The .22 is a great learning rifle, cheap to run and good fun for plinking.
    Hope that helps somewhat.
