Planning to go sole trader, working in a construction related consultancy. If I can get self employed work with existing contractors, I'll take it.

Question is, if working self employed for a main contractor, do I need my own PI insurance or could that be covered by the main contractor?

    Thanks in advance,

Ill think you need your own because if you advise something and it back fires the contractor will get sued, if you are in turn contracted by him his insurance company may go after you...

That's definitely one possibility. I wonder has anyone had these conversations when signing up as a subcontractor? I'd be effectively doing the same job as PAYE staff....
