Electric Kits

    Hello
I'm considering buying an electric drum kit
I already have an acoustic so this will be an extra kit
Main reasons for considering an electric kit: it'll be quieter- allowing me to practice later- and it'll be easier/quicker to get to and from band practices

    so drummers who have e-kits:
Are there any good kits available for round €200 and what should i look for in an e-kit?

    hi

just a couple of things to consider
    1. i have a roland td9-kx and am integrating it with a roland spd-s probably just over 2k worth of gear. great piece of machinary perfect for practicing asloud as you want with earphones
    2. wide range of kits and percussion available in one kit
    3. great response with mesh heads and 3way triggers in some cases
    hers's the thing though
    1. i bought this at the beginning of 09 after being away from the drums for 6 yrs- main reason moved house, i got a wife, mam got a drumkit. other things i got since stopped playing include, mortgage, 2 kids, part time college, engineering business. my point being i spent a lot of money on this gear but have very little time to practise
    2. this leads me to next point, if you want to develop as a "better" drummer you do need good quality tools. a cheap kit may be more of a hinderance when tryin to get responses to rolls, flams, paradiddles, etc, etc.
    3. i jam every friday but have recently noticed that lately i dont even unpack the kit at home most weeks....dont be fooled, this takes longer to set up than acoustic kits and can get tedious
that all aside i love this kit but unless you have the money and time dont buy cheap... you may not progress much. if you want more practise invest in rolands rhythm coach or similar and the likes of jojo mayers dvd secret weapons and practise techniques at home.you will soon find huge progress in the studio or gigging

    hope this helps

I got a Roland TD-3KW last year, bought it off Advert, and its awesome for what I use it for. If you're extremely serious about drumming anything less than €1500 on a kit will be fairly useless, but I got mine for €475, and they go on Advert for about €450 these days.

Don't know about that comment about anything below 1500 euro being crap , i have a alesis DM-10 pro , great kit , i had a Roland TD-9 and a yamaha which both i paid over 1200 euro for over the last couple of years and the alesis blows them out of the water in regards to not just the hardware but the dm10 module (brain),

I've been drumming since i was 13 ( I'm 37 now) i play acoustically Tama, so i like good drums.

    hardware
i prefer it to the Roland cause your playing real skins, fair enough there only 10 or 8 inches but you can adjust your stick bounce by loosening the skin, and response through the brain, also if ya like the evan skins or remo , you can put them on this kit and get the same feel, cymbals are great looking as well as very quite and duel or triple zoned and all with chokes,

    Module
absolutely great , with features well above it's price range , you can load in samples from all the major drummer programs , the likes of EZ drummer (my fav) , and it's not rocket science either , it's so easy.

    package
i got a DM10 pro with an extra 8" tom and 2 duel zoned (rubber Type) cymbals , so basically a 6 piece kit with hats, ride & 3 crash's all for less then a grand new for 1000, and i traded down from a Roland ( well thought i was) and it was the best thing i did, well worth checking out.

if i can help you out with any other info such as the place i bought it pm me and i'll get back to you. I don't want to advertise them here.

Sorry, I should have clarified. If the OP is an extremely serious drummer, gigging professionally, then less than €1500 will probably leave him unsatisfied. But if its just for practice or smaller gigs, a less expensive kit will most certainly do the job.

thanks for the replies lads, i appreciate all the feedback, hopefully this thread will be useful for the next drummer thinking of going electric

anyway, i've decided an e-kit isn't worth the money atm. i only have enough for a sub-par e-kit and that money would be far better invested in better cymbals/hardware for my acoustic (especially since i'll be bringing it gigging soon :D)

besides, i LOVE rimshots, and i don't think you could do that on an e-kit...
    can you?

I'm not a pro btw. I've been playing for about 5 years (i think) and the last kit exam i did was Grade 5 with Trinity Guildhall last year
