Probably posted already but no harm in posting it up for something positive for a change

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2010/0322/breaking17.html
Ebay is to create 150 jobs at its Dublin operations, with the expansion supported by IDA Ireland.
The new positions will be in customer service, personal account management and process enhancement. The latest job creation will bring to more than 1,600 the number of people employed at Ebay and Paypal's Blanchardstown site.

Taoiseach Brian Cowen welcomed the announcement.

"This builds on the already impressive presence both eBay and their partner operation PayPal have in Blanchardstown," he said. "Ebay is now a global brand name and we are delighted that our capital can provide the flexible and skilled workforce necessary to help this brand grow further in the period ahead."

Ebay's Dublin site director Dublin Andrew Pease said the roles were in areas that support its global and European strategy, and the company is seeking strong technical skills in business analytics, knowledge management, project management and account management.

“The decision to expand eBay Dublin is a reflection of our confidence in the standard of skilled workforce within the Irish market," he said.

On a side issue, Ebay should never have been allowed to buy PayPal.

    Talk about vested interest.

Just listing an item for sale is so weighted in favour of choosing PayPal as the payment option.

I can't understand how they get away with it.

May look positive but they are currently letting a lot of staff go. Friend of mine works in their paypal operation. Apparently to qualify for some grant they are recieving they need to keep hiring so they simply let some staff go...

How much is a lot of staff?

About 4 people have been let go from ebay in the past 1.5 years.

And who would have stopped them buying Paypal? The shopping police? They are allowed do what they like within the law!? Paypal is used, because it has the most users, and easiest for most!

    They're not really new jobs.

I think they are about half of jobs lost when ebay let go people a couple of years back.

    Eh, source?

eBay were responsible for the cancelling of the Sitel contract in January of last year resulting in 160 redundancies.

    PR stunt tbh.

They were on contract for a specified amount of time, the time needed to complete the job that they completed.

They were not permanent staff which were made redundant.

 I'm sure there are plenty of those who are bilingual/multilingual out there.

If that was the case, eBay certainly didn't tell anyone about it until they felt it was necessary to end the contract and move to the Philippines.

    Anywho...

Does anyone know if ebay hire direct, as in from their own HR function or do they use an agency?

Ive applied for a job here and am desperately trying to get a contact number for the hr dept to follow up but to no avail.

Anyone know the number or if an agency is involved and I can call them?

    Cheers

Could you not have just wrote 'Jobs'?

Retarded words should fall under 'txtspeak' rules on Boards!

But if you don't use words like Bewbs and Wimminz, people be thinking you're all serious like.

It's a way of numbing the effect of a ribbing.

That's just my opinion mind :)

this must be a hoax - ebay don't have any human staff.

I have had occasions to report fraudulent sellers to them and all I got were automated, standard responses which completely failed to address the issue.

Anybody else I know in the same position has had the same lack of success with them.

They've a site here: http://www.ebayjobsireland.com/pages/index.htm that seems to handle their job apps - didn't see a phone number on it though.
