Depositing on Betfair etc

    Hi,

Decided to post this here as I can't access the website at the moment. Do any of you guys know the different ways to deposit? I know you can deposit via laser and credit card as I have done both in the past, but what are the other ways? There's a good few laser deposits and withdrawals on my account already so I'm not sure if all of this really matters...

The reason I ask is because I'm not sure if it's a good idea having gambling transactions on my current account (don't ask me why, countless people go to an ATM and head to the local bookies and no one knows about that). I'd like to deposit via laser as there's no charge but is it recommended?

    Thanks.

You can use Neteller, Paypal, Moneybookers etc.

    From their website:
There is no fee for deposits with most UK debit cards on GBP accounts or with most Irish Laser cards on EUR accounts. There is a 1.5% fee for all other debit and credit card deposits. Some card issuers impose additional charges for credit card deposits and customers should contact their card issuer for details of any charges that may be applied.

Thanks for that. But isn't the paypal option really just using your credit card?

I've attempted to set up a Neteller account before but they've never been happy with the quality of images I've sent them, I can't do any better really.

What are your thoughts on the other stuff?

Sorry, how do you mean? I'm with BOI, so I withdraw the money, go to Ulster Bank and just transfer it there? Do I need an IBAN or anything like that? How many days does it take for the money to appear in your account?

    Thanks.

    Moneybookers is a useful option.

I've never had any hassle with it

its a bank transfer. just print the page(on the payments options) and go to the ulster bank with it. you dont need an account there. it's usually in the next day.

Really? That sounds exactly what I'm looking for. Cheers. I just signed up to Moneybooker and it seems that I still need to have money in the bank account...I can't just go in with cash and make the transfer.

What happens when you want to withdraw?

    They'd probably send a cheque.

Walk down to the bank to lodge the money then wait x days for the cheque to come and a further 5 days when you lodge it.

Its not the most time efficient way of doing things.

Well you asked the question i gave the answer. I doubt they care about efficiency when it comes to the time a cheque takes to clear.

Bugger, they don't accept cash deposits :(

Keep yopur knickers on. It was only a comment on the process not a dig at you. Personally I wouldn't like to have to wait 3 weeks to get paid.

OP why dont you just open a cash account with a betfair broker. As far as I know they're in all cities and most decent sized rural towns.

Sorry, Didn't mean to sound so serious! I wouldn't like it either but if he has no access to a card or back account it's possibly the only way he'll get paid. Debit Cards are the handiest though.

What's a Betfair brooker? Never heard of it before. I'm based in Dublin fwiw. Do they charge much?

  • Moderators Posts: 8,754 ✭✭✭x PyRo

They're basically an agent for betfair. You can set up a cash account with them, you can lodge and withdraw in cash from this account. There's a good few of them in Dublin if you email betfair they'll give you the addresses. They dont/shouldn't charge anything for the account as they get paid a percentage by betfair.

The link xpyro attached is for a trading room which provides a host of other services for a fee. I've never been there but I'd be very surprised if they weren't betfair agents as well.

No harm no foul. Debit cards are without doubt the easiest and cheapest.

The bank manager does get antsie about all the betting transactions though. Which annoys me no end as I could blow a weeks wages in a bar, stick all on the card and it would be grand

Yeah it's not the nicest thing knowing that others can tell when we've a gambling problem. :D Probably would look worse on a credit card for people with severe problems with all their deposits coming up on it. It's best to use Paypal, Moneybookers etc, at least they don't know where your money is heading then.

Bah. Just emailed Betfair and this was the response I got:
    Thank you for your e-mail.

No we do not allow transaction through brokers, you wouldn't be able to do this.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further enquiries.

    :(

Thats horse****. They're just being lazy. BF's customer service is in general rubbish. Have you tried to complete the KYC process yet?

Why not email the trading room directly: info@ifscsportstrading.com
I'd email Betfair again and ask them where in Dublin you can open an account and deposit cash. Keep the wording simple but tell them your going to move to Betdaq as you are dismayed with the awful customer service.

I'm fairly sure one or two of the casino's in Dublin offer a similar service but am not from the captial so cant swear on it.

Ha. I emailed them back again saying I wasn't happy etc and this is what I got:
    Thank you for your e-mail.

We do not accept deposits in this matter, please follow the link below to see the different deposit methods available to you :

    http://payments.betfair.com/country_select_ukeire.htm

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further enquiries.

So I then emailed info@ifscsportstrading.com and they replied with the following:
You can open a cash account on Betfair through us and deposit and withdraw using cash.

    What the hell? :D

I have deposited cash in an Ulster Bank using my Betfair ref code a good few times and it is always in the next day.

They're really are rubbish when it comes to customer service. I emailed them out of curiosity and got the following:

    Thank you for your e-mail.

We do not have anywhere where cash can be paid into a betfair account apart from a western union shop. We do not recommend paying in by cash by any methods because there is no receipt for it. For all various payment methods you can find these at payments.betfair.com.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further enquiries.

despite that fact that I have two cash accounts one opened in Tipp and one in Cork, muppets.

If you end up going down to the IFSC let us know what you think. I'm curious about these type of trading rooms.

I've asked Betfair about this but they said they don't accept cash deposits. Do you have an Ulster Bank account? If so, did you transfer the money into that account and then make the transfer?

No. I don't have an Ulster Bank account. I deposited cash into their account over the counter.

I know on the t&c's they say they do not accept cash deposits, I only noticed that after I had done it a few times. But mine have always gone in no hassle.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 39 JonathanD

And what will happen if they don't accept the cash deposit? :D

I'm, eh, sort of afraid of losing the money then!
