I need to buy a new laptop. Budget circa 600e-ish. My brothern who works in IT, has advised me to only buy Dell or HP, for the reason that if I ever need a spare part (new battery, screen etc) that Dell and HP have a good supply and the prices are not too high, whereas, apparently, the same cant be said of t he likes of Sony etc.
Personally, my old laptop is a Dell, and I would prefer to go for a brand like Toshiba, Sony etc. But the brothers arguement is a good one, if its correct. I dont know much about this whole area, before I buy a laptop, would the rest of ye in general agree that its better to buy a Dell/HP for these reasons?

Toshiba are great if you buy from an authorised seller like bms in walkinstown and they are agents for any spare parts or repairs.
I have had 3 toshibas over the years and only ever had 1 problem so I would trust them....
keep away from acer or compaq ..... great spec ..... poor build quality....
