Back Pain - decompression treatment

    Hi there,

Posting this on behalf of my wife who recently suffered a back injury and is some pretty bad pain...

A colleague of my wife recommended she visit a chiropractor who works out of the Citywest Hotel in Dublin. Apparently, they are using a new decompression treatment for back injuries which he says achieves great results. One of the apparent benefits is that on average you only need 4 visits before your injury is cured.

Because this treatment is relatively new to me and we don't live in Dublin I thought I would try get people's opinions on the treatment before my wife goes up for a consultation.

    Thanks for your help,

    Tommy

Second opinion, second opinion, second opinion.

Is she seeing a doctor at the moment? Has she seen an osteopath or a physio? Is she getting an mri scan done?

I'd urge caution at attending a chiropractor unless she knows the extent of her back injury.

I'd be doubly cautious about any organisation that says they can cure back pain in 4 sessions.

If only it were that simple.

IMO, and from previous experience, a chiropractor would be my last port of call for back pain. I'd try all other methods first.

First opinion was the doctor, he just prescribed pain killers and anti-inflams.

Second opinion was the chiropractor, he said it was a 'bulging' disc. He said that she could get an mri scan done if the pain continues.

If it were me I'd go to an osteopath and seriously consider an mri.

MRI and physio would be my opinion anyway.
As said before anyone who promises results in only 4 sessions sets off alarm bells.

Like most of you here I'm a little skeptical about it too, I'd like to find someone who has actually had the treatment done to get their opinion on it.

Not really sure how this is fitness related. I'm gonna move it to medical sciences....you'll probably get a better answer there.

i'd be very sceptical about someone promising quick cures for something like back pain

noone can offer you advice here

discuss with her doctor whether she should attend a chiropractor or some other service
