A mate has the TM MP7 and it is one of the nicest AEGs on the market.

When you say 'backup' do you mean backup to your primary AEG or for a sniper? IMO it would suit perfectly as a sniper backup (or even as a primary CQB gun) but its large size relative to a pistol means that it isn't nearly as practical as a rifleman backup, I would still go with a standard pistol for that role. The RoF is adequate for most situations but nothing special, but due to the limitations of its diminutive body the internals aren't standard and even the website blurb says it shoots around 265fps which does limit it to CQB and/or backup gun use. Other downsides are that most available mags are 50-100rds and the TM version runs on a proprietary 7.2V low MAh battery which doesn't have a great runtime. Also, because most of the internals are specific to this AEG I have heard that if they go wrong it can be a pig to get parts for them.

It may sound like I am telling you NOT to buy an MP7 but nothing could be further from the truth. The TM version I have used is simply gorgeous and lovely to use and should be on every collectors wish list. The enjoyment you get from using it far outweighs the negatives.

I use one as a backup in a drop-leg holster, but it's been used as a main gun a few times. The Tokyo Marui ones are pretty sensitive to crappy BBs and jam, and the Tokyo Marui magazines are particularly bad offenders in this regard, but MAG make effective if cheapy magazines that feed well.

There's not much potential for upgrading them, but they can hold their own fine as they are. They're nice and light and compact. Indoors they're a blast. The rate of fire is impressively high in my opinion.

I've only seen the battery run out once, that was almost at the end of a full day of play with it as a main gun. I've since bought another battery just in case.

It's well-built and fun to use. I like it lots!
