Hi folks I'm kind of just getting into traditional music and i love what I'm hearing and seeing.
I've seen this Seamus Ennis 'God of the uillean Pipes' video and it blew me away..

I also like this lovely interview with Martin Hayes

I know there's a thread about favourite videos but could anyone recommend some essential or classic performances that I could use to learn more about the music? I know there's a lot on 'Come west along the road' but there's so much to that I don't know where to start...
    Thanks

thats a very broad question... id personally start with buying up a load of planxty and bothy band albums and move left and right, up and down after that..!

......and De Danann. They absolutely rocked my world when I discovered them. Depends what you're into though. Just trawl through youtube and see what you find. Theres loads really.

Check out clarebannerman's channel. He's a bastian of all things trad on youtube.

Hi Live at Three, I'm afraid I'd be like the others here, and I'd say listen to less "engineered" albums as much as you can, rather than watch videos. Bothy Band, De Dannan, early Altan too, Ceol Aduaidh (Frankie Kennedy, Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh), Elizabeth Crotty if you like Concertina, Kelly/O'Brien/Sproule Traditional Music of Ireland album...
When I started listening to Irish trad I also really loved this album :

I'm French and there were 2 albums available in the French shops that became my reference points too :
the Irlande cd with Frankie Gavin, Arty McGlynn and Aidan Coffey, and another Irlande cd that's pink/purple from a world series sort of thing with De Dannan and Altan in concert (german recording I think).
There was also a brilliant 2 cd Green Linnet collection cd.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help as regards videos, these are my "essence of Irish music" cds, thought it might help if I shared :).
I'm a huge fan of Martin Hayes myself, you're in good hands starting with him anyway :D, I take it you've checked out his early recordings ? (Martin Hayes and Under the moon).

One video I would recommend for great music is the more recent Danu dvd One Night Stand (not a documentary).
