Renewing Irish passport

    What is the process for renewing an Irish passport? Is there a special form i require or do i just use the normal application?

    Mine is due to run out in July and heading to France next month for a few days so would wish to have it renewed before then if its possible.

    I'm not sure of the procedure but the wait times are quite long at the moment due to industrial action :eek:

    No, its the usual application form, bring your old Passport and another form of ID to Garda Station with two recent photos. Be careful with the photos are as they are very picky about them now. Don't use a machine i would get them done properly. Lots of bigger pharmacy's have someone who will take them for you and have them printed in about 5 mins. Its worth the extra cost. If you are in a rush then use An Post 10 working day thingy although thats even out to 15 days now i believe due to Industrial action.

    Oh thats not too bad.

    Do i need to send the old passport back with the application form or can i hold onto that in case the new one doesnt arrive back in time?

    You need to hand back the old passport at the time of application as far as I know.

    The old passport will be cancelled and returned to you!

    I would concur with one of the previous posters about getting your photos done correctly. My husband had to send in new photos and a friend of mine had photos returned twice!!!
