I've recently purchased a new macbook white so have decided to donate my old imac G5 to the old man who is still using his G3 on CLASSIC(it's so cute and retro :D ). Anyway he has some files and the like on the G3 that he'd want to transfer to my computer and he's going round talking about putting them all on CD's. All our other computers are connected via ethernet but we can't seem to connect his computer from either of mine or my brothers mac mini to transfer the files.
Basically, can you connect a computer on system 9 to one on OS 10 via ethernet or will we have to do file transfers the old fashioned way?

Did you try firewire target disk mode? Provided it's not the very earliest iMac, it should work.

can you get the g3 on the network at all? THe osx machines mightnt see it, but if you can get it on the same network, set the G3 machine up as a webserver (personal web sharing in prefs), surf to its IP address and transfer the files via your browser.
