Hi I have a Rolex Daytona Chromograph and before u ask no its not a Far East replica!!! bought it in the 1970s from Mappin and Webb in Chester with all the paperwork but had a prob right from the start ie within the first year the winder fell out!!sent it back to Rolex and they repaired it but then the main spring went and with it my passion for the watch. It has remained locked away since then but I now feel I would love to wear it again but how do I go about having it restored to its former glory without being ripped off or worse still and I know this seems strange having it swapped for one of those fakes and returned to me as my original watch. Any help would be appreciated

well if it was my daytona from the70s (which could be worth a small fortune nowadays) i would be sending it back to rolex in the uk for a full service and overhaul, will cost £300-400 id imagine, but that watch is worth at least £6-7k if not more i should think

+1, Rolex service is in Bexley I believe, they do some lovely work from pics I've seen. You will also get proper Rolex warranty papers which would be essential I think for a watch of this value.

On a Daytona I would travel to the UK in person rather than thrust Weirs or someone to handle it.

Thanks for all your help! looks like the best option is bypass everyone as you suggest and get it back to HQ One thing, checked my paperwork which I keep locked away but hav`nt checked for a while. As you all probably know I should have stated it is a ' Chosmograph' and not as I said Chromograph!! the model no is 6265/0 and my memory is obviously on the blink, I bought it Jan 83 for the mad sum of £495 While amazed and pleased at your 6/7k valuation does the change of purchase date alter the value and is it still worth getting it to Rolex HQ for the overhaul? Once again thanks for your advice

Rolex vintage, vintage Rolex; it doesn't matter how you re-arrange these words - if everything is as you say then you are sitting on something both collectable and desirable, and the fact that you appear to still have original papers is very much to your advantage. I suggest that you post some pictures; I am no Rolex expert (though I do have high hopes for something that's sitting in Bexley at the moment) but I'm sure there are some on here who can help.

whatever it is you have it sounds like an all original vintage daytona, i actually shudder to think how much it could be worth 6-7k is potentially very conservative, try and do a little research on rolex forums and take a few pics, if you have a few pictures i can try the folks at tz-uk and see if they can spread any light,

basically a vintage rolex depending on desirability and condition can go for anything

    Hi DavidKay,

If all you say is correct, you have a very rare and collectible watch. I would advise against any sort of mail/courier transportion. Go with the watch in person to Rolex, 19 St James Square, London. Its near Piccadilly tube station. Just walk in. You don't have to go all the way out to Bexley. It will cost 550stg plus for overhaul. Please be assured, the overhaul spend will be vastly lower than your cosmo present day value. Cyrus, shudder a little more Chief..:)

Actually, try ring them first with the case reference number (between lugs at 12 o'clock position) tel:- 00 44 20 70247300 and see what they say!

    Rgds,
    Origipolo.

    Hello DavidKay,

I would only get a movement service.
And please make sure the case, hands, dial, bezel should not be touched
    at all.

    Bests
