Hi , my friend has a landrover which he has been restoring. He intended to put it on the road next month when it reached 30 years. Will it require to be nctd or doed due to rumoured changes ?

get him to check out the date of manufacture with the relevant club.... i believe they will accept this rather than the date of first registration and he could be just lucky (they arent rumoured changes btw....1.1.1980 is the NCT cut off.

I'm guessing it depends what it's registered / taxed as.

I've had a look through various acts and it might fall between two stools as vehicle testing and categorising is a complete mishmash here.

Anyway first registration is the first date of registration anywhere. If only the year of registration is known, then the day and the month is put down as that of when the paperwork is done.

Manufacturing date doesn't have much to do with it, unless the person processing the paperwork gets it wrong ;)

if i was you i would just go up and tax it as a classic . the 30years stoped for nct but no one has said any thing about the doe. i taxed my toyota bj40 just be four x mas and they ask for a doe i just said it was 30years and they just tax it.as far as i can see it only cars from 80 on would need a nct. this mite be a loop hole we found for the min:D

    I have a Land Rover 1980
I made a lot of phone calls on this and if the vehicle is registered on or after 1.1.1980 then it will need a yearly NCT under the new system.
Mine falls into this, so it will need to be NCT'd.

If your friends is March 1980, then it will need an NCT, but I must say, the DOE/NCT thing mentioned is a good one. If your truck is a commerical the NCT 30year thing doesn't effect it?? Am I right in this or did I miss something?

    Regards,
    Landy
