You won't get it easily.. it was never released on R2 DVD but it was released for a limited time on R4 (Australia) DVD.

    Laser, Ranelagh.

This has been bugging me for years. Such a great film I can't understand why it never had a DVD release. I heard there was a Australian release. I don't understand why a lot smaller / crapper films are out on DVD but not this one????

    Probably couldn't find a distributor.

I remember The Snapper not having a UK/Ireland release for years either, despite a clear demand. Must be an Irish thing?

They like to perpetuate the myth that there are no good Irish films. I mean if Shrooms can get a BluRay release surely I Went Down deserves at least a DVD?

What made me think about it was watching Perrier's Bounty. I just kept thinking how much better I Went Down was.

But The Snapper was a made-for-TV film shown on BBC. It never had a cinema release.

Might have been made for tv but it definetly had a cinema release too.

I saw it in the long-gone cinema in Glasthule, Dublin whose name escapes me, so it did get a release.

Got the Region 1 DVD from Amazon years ago, it only got a region 2 release towards the end of last year.

My apologies. I know it was originally shown on BBC.
Maybe it's popularity generated enough momentum to release it eventually in the cinema.

I just watched this again yesterday - funny film.
    Brendan Gleeson is classic.

It was out on VHS so it can't be a rights issue. No idea why it isn't on DVD. Madness.

It's on DVD in other countries but over here it seems that there just wasnt the demand for a DVD.

Why don't you go into Laser, Ranelagh and ask them why it's not out on DVD yet they have it on their shelf?

They obviously imported it from abroad, I've seen the Australian copy available to purchase in a number of places.

Saw TS in the Cineplex in Coolock originally (not too far from where it was shot). Saw IWD in the Savoy AFAIR. I'm under the impression that the outside of the pub scene was shot in Islandbridge, and everytime I pass it it reminds me of the film :)

    D.

OR, maybe it's an old region 2 copy from the '90s?

I would imagine it's the Australian version which is R4 which plays in all R2 players. There was no DVD release over her in the 90s.

Less of the eye rolling please. You should be able to make a point without being facetious.

Hi. Does anyone have a copy of the script to I Went Down? In particular, I'm looking for Git's speech to the girl about how he ended up in prison.

Excellent movie, I wish they'd release it on DVD.

The Kevin Street public library in Dublin have a copy.

The script wasn't released to the net, but it's available on Amazon (cheap enough too) - http://www.amazon.co.uk/I-Went-Down-Shooting-Scripts/dp/1854593935/ref=sr_1_cc_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1303755478&sr=1-2-catcorr

It's a hard to find film so I sympathise, folks, but all discussion about how to acquire films illegally is against the charter. Don't ask, don't tell.

Fair point, but I wasn't aware that sharing was illegal, but I will keep that in mind.

Thanks for the heads-up re library/Amazon. I'll try and see if Galway Library has a copy.

As for piracy and all that... I abhor it. I am not going to now look for a torrent for this film...

If Galway library doesn't have a copy you can do an inter-library loan.

    Cool. I'll try that.

I know it's an old post but, BBC were the production company, and it was shown on TV first but it still had a theatrical release, Miramax were the distibuters according to IMDB.

I could be wrong, but as far as I know, the big mistake they made with I Went Down was releasing it into cinemas on the same weekend as Titanic was released. Obviously, there was only one film at that time that anyone was going to see, and only one film that was going to get coverage in the popular press.

Bloody hell, I thought IWD was a lot older than that:confused:

I know this is an old thread but I remembered reading it a while back and I thought the people involved in it might like to know that I was in Dunnes at the weekend and there was a tonne of copies of "I Went Down" on DVD. Granted, they're a bit of a rip-off at €15 but ... :)

Saw a few in Xtravision for 9.99, that was in Donaghmede but I'd say they have them in all of them.

Advertised in the paper as available in Heatons. Can anyone tell me if by some miracle there's any form of bonus content on the disc? I know we're lucky enough to get the movie as it is!

    Really? Why?

It has been a long time since i have seen it but i can still remember how bad it was.The other film that i found that was as bad was Million Dollar Hotel.
Cant really explain to you why i presume its down to personal taste.
