    Is or was there a grant for restoring old stone cottage to their fomer traditional glory?

    Or any tips or links to websites on how to restore an old cottage into an farm/animal outbuilding cheaply?

    Try www.heritagecouncil.ie
    There is a grant available to REPS 4 farmers for old farm buildings, from the heritage council.
    Your local Leader (or its successor) group might also be worth a try.

    unless the building is listed or is of historical value i doubt there will be any grant available for it .
    teagasc and the heritage council have a small booklet called traditional buildings on irish farms which explains a bit about old farm buildings and their history and restoration. ring them to get a copy its free.
