Travel close to Passport Expiry Query

    Hi,

I booked a trip to Eurodisney with my 2 kids over Easter. Just checked my Sons passport and it expires 24th April, about 3 weeks after we get back. I did some googling and it seems to say that Intra-EU travel is fine as long as your passport is valid, and its only if I was travelling further afield I might have problems.

Do the good folk of boards.ie agree with this assessment?

With the ongoing PS BS would I have any chance of getting a new one for him within 10 working days?

    Thanks,

    Inq

Your information is correct. You may travel within the EU on a passport right up to the expiration date. No need for a new passport.

The PS are on the go slow / do nothing. I very much doubt I could get a Passport turned round in 8/9 days.

There is nothing being left to chance. The OP's can travel on his current passport as it doesn't expire until after his return.
All EU citizens have the right to enter and reside in the territory of any other member state of the European Union for a period of up to three months simply by presenting a valid passport or national identity card; no other formality is required. Member states cannot set additional conditions concerning the minimum validity of duration of the identity card or passport

If the OP was to apply for a new passport before departure he'd have to send in the current one and under the current action it is quite likely they'd be left with none. Better to wait until they return IMO.

From what I'm hearing no chance. Already a backlog of 40,000 application, I believe.

The OP would be crazy to part with his passport in an attempt to get a new one, given that there is no problem whatsoever with this trip. If he is not travelling after this trip for a while, he can get a new one then.

OP - you will be fine - esp. within Europe.

Generally places that offer tourist Visa's etc. like to have / insist on at least 6 months on a passport but that's not the case here.
