Folks, just a quick question to clarify a point, if one was to be tagged over the speed limit by a motor cycle Garda with a speed-gun (not a van with a camera) do they have to come after you and stop you to give you the points + fine or can you still get a fine in the post if not stopped as i dont believe these speed guns take a picture of the car and what proof would they have.

    thanks in advance

    Thump

I think a motorbike or a car has to come after you, but a Gatso van or fixed camera just sends out the fine.

Car can definitely have a tripod-mounted video recording device where they can send a FPN in the post - not sure a bike can (physical bulk of carrying it).

any garda vechile that you spot with a speed gun will register the reg a pic and you will get the fine in the post...

as rule of thumb the garda wont register a fine if you are under the garda fining regulations which is the speed limit plus 10% + 2 kmph... anything over that expect the fine in the post

    This isn't true, at all.

The handheld speed cameras do not have any ability to do this.

Which in this case would be the truth.

Ask any of the Gardai on here.

The standard laser gun does not take a picture and it doesn't matter whether its handheld or on a tripod. There is recording equipment available but a motorcycle Garda is unlikely to have it

There is some info and pics in this post. Can clearly be seen that there are no cameras on most of these "guns"

Thats not right at all. Most of them dont take pictures and there are no regulations about how far over the limit you can go. I think thats an English rule. i remember seeing it on top gear.

just staying on the same topic if you are caught speeding by a gatso van,in general how long does it take for you to receive the fine in the post?

So you mean theres a chance i escaped unscathed or am i likely to get a FPN from a motorcycle Garda, looking at the link previously i think it was only a gun i didnt see a side attachment so not really sure, kind of annoyed as i for the most part stay within the law it was just so nice and sunny yesterday and i wasnt paying attn to the speed on an empty road.
