Social, Domestic & Pleasure / Class 1?

    Hi,

I'm not sure where the best place to put this question is, but I guess motors is a good place to start.

It's coming up to my insurance renewal time and I've been checking out all the usual sites for the best quotes. However, I've noticed that some sites are suggesting that I need Class 1 insurance instead of Social, Domestic & Pleasure + Commuting.

They state that an employee who (even occasionally) can claim mileage allowances from their employer should have Class 1.

    My questions:

    1. Is Class 1 insurance more expensive? (I expect it is, as it covers you to drive more often and to different locations - ie Business meetings, training etc.)

    2. Should my employer be paying the difference for this insurance? (It's my own vehicle and I don't get a company car allowance)

    Cheers,
    /T
