Putting site on search engine

Think I'm on right board. I want to put our web site on search engines so do I need to go to a a web designer or can I do it myself? I looked and some search engines charge so am I better off getting someone else to do who will give me SEO and more choice of listings? Got a good site from Customer Street in the UK but…

You can submit your site for free to most search engines. Here's the URL to add it to Google. How well it does in the search results is down to a lot of factors.
