iPhone 3GS won't Jailbreak

I have a iPhone 3gs that is post week 42 so requires a tethered jailbreak. I've had it jailbroke since I bought it without much issue apart from the annoyance of the requirement of tethering when restarting.

Last night I was away from home and I went to check my phone and it was turned off. When I got home I put it on charge and the plug into usb logo came on, which was standard. I left it on charge last night as it was late and went to start it this morning, with Blackra1n and so far (nearly an hour) its failed to start up.

I click "make it rain" and the Frodo figure (maybe its not frodo but it looks like him :D) comes up on the screen. After about 15 seconds the turnwheel loading symbol appears but freezes after a couplle of turns. After a couple of minutes it flickers and then turns off and starts again from step 1. As its still connected it tries to jailbreak again and the same thing has being happening for an hour.

Does this mean I can't jailbreak? If I need to restore I'll have to go to 3.1.3 which means I won't be able to jailbreak it again (possibly ever). A non jailbroke phone to me is torture as so much of what I use the phone for requires Cydia apps. :(

    Any help would be appreciated.

    3-Turn On Your iDevice.
    4-Go to Setting
    5-AirPlane Mode Should Be On

    Quazzie,
This problem(blackra1n boot loop) is all over other Internet forums and is a recent known issue.
It seems that blackra1n has become buggy , especially after some CYDIA installs.
Another boards.ie poster is having same issue and I have directed him here:

The suggested fixes on one of the links take nearly overnight to resolve , if you have your ECID shsh up on CYDIA and a rrstore won't cause you hassle then I would take that route.

I read that and as was suggested I just kept trying. It finally jailbroke. and seems to be working perfectly now.

Now for my next question. Is there any way to avoid this happening again?

    It happened again :(

It seems its just turning itself off now so it keeps going back to this problem.

I think I'll just update to 3.1.3. I couldn't be arsed with this tbh.

Dont do an offical restore ..use the Cydia server

At lease the then the restore may remove whatever is causing blackra1n to loop , yet you can still re-jailbreak.
