Contemplating getting one of these games maybe next wk? Which would think is better? They seem quite similar. And can only really afford one.

Mag felt like a work in progress when I had it, I think it's a cracking idea but I couldn't get into it. BFBC2 on the other hand is excellent, a few niggling issues online like gun balancing but when you get in a good squad the game is brilliant fun.

I went back and had a couple of games of MAG last night after playing Battlefield to death the last couple of weeks. They're actually pretty different really once you get past the obvious similarities. Both have their pros and cons and both offer different experiences.

MAG does a better job in terms of teamwork. With FRAGOs and the whole leadership structure they do a much better job of incentivising teamwork and working towards an objective. In Battlefield I've found that yeah you have your objectives, but pretty much everyone wanders off and does their own thing. It has to do with squad size too I think. 8 person squads in MAG vs. 4 person squads in Battlefield. Also the fact that in MAG you can't spawn on squad mates means that you're much more inclined to stick with your squad so you can be revived rather than just thinking "If I did I'll just spawn on one of my squadies,"

When MAG goes well, with a leader constantly updating your objectives and communicating well with your team, it's exhilirating. Communication is much better in MAG too. Besides games with boardsies I don't think I've heard one person using a mic in Battlefield, whereas there's always one of two in MAG. If the idea of teamwork and working as a cohesive unit is what's drawing you to the games I'd go with MAG.

Both games do a great job with the sense of scale. Battlefield with it's vehicles on the more open maps and MAG with the leadership roles. In MAG you do get a great sense of you're a small part in a much larger conflict. Whereas Battlefield you're just surrounded by the chaos of buildings exploding and vehicle being destroyed all around you.

There's very different dynamics in both games. I think it's largely to do with the fully destructable enviroments and vehicles in Battlefield. There's a lot of running in and out of buildings, moving from cover to cover as they get destroyed as staying out in the open makes you fodder for vehicles and snipers. You get a lot of close quarters battles because of that depending on the role you take. I've found a lot more instances of spawn camping in Battlefield than in MAG. Largely due to medics combined with being able to spawn on your squad mates. Grenades in MAG will kill someone to the point that they can't be revived in MAG, so it's easier to clear out a group of campers if the need arises.

MAG's dynamic involves more open maps and games as there are no building to enter. You'll have close quarters battles around bunkers and objectives, but it's more about squad vs. squad rather than 1 v 1. You can wander off and lone-wolf it to some extent in Battlefield, whereas that's a short-cut to an incredibly frustrating game of MAG.

Anyway that's just a few quick thoughts, I'm missing the match so need to run! I'd look at a few videos of both, probably the Gametrailers reviews and giant bomb's quick looks will give you a good idea of what each game is like. I don't think you can go wrong with either. It's hard to say which I prefer because they both offer different experiences, and flick different switches for me. It's not a case of one over the other for, it's all down to mood. Like yesterday I got extremely frustrated with Battlefield with the amount of spawn camping I was getting in games, and played MAG for a bit last night which felt like a breath of fresh air. I'll go back to Battlefield though, but MAG is still a great game and I still have a lot of time for it.

I'm still p;aying MAG almost two months since it was released which is rare for me. I'm not sure I'll be saying the same about Battlefield. They're both miles better than MW2 though. MW2 seems archaic in comparison to both.

The thing about MAG is you don't really get those rambo moments you get in BC2. Its all well and good working slowly with your squad, sticking together to revive each other and take objectives but you can do all those things in BC2 plus you can shoot down a helicopter with 4 guys in it that goes spinning into the ground and explodes.

Way more crazy stuff happens in BC2.

I think you'll struggle to find a video like that for MAG.

Yeah get Battlefield if you want over the top crazy moments, but if you want a more tactical, teamwork orientated experience go for MAG. I've had plenty of Rambo moments in MAG, just not combat related. MAG is more rewarding when you're playing in a support role I think. I've enjoyed playing as a medicmore in MAG than I have in Battlefield. My Rambo moments have involved parachuting in and reviving three people and then all of us taking out a bunker, or sprinting across a battlefield missing being shot by millimetres all to revive a fallen squad mate to take out the couple of people around him before reviving him, then carrying on towards the objective. When you have a moment that turns the tide of battle in MAG it feels more rewarding for me because you have to work so hard for it. You can't just hop in a tank and bring down the building around an M-COM station.

I find MAG a more rewarding experience, and if you struggle with online FPS games I think MAG probably has more for you to do rather than killing people. In that you're more than capable of having an enjoyable time playing a support role. Not to say that Battlefield isn't enjoyable to play as a supporting class, I just don't find it quite as rewarding.

Get battlefield play it for 2 or 3 weeks and get bored of it trade it in then for MAG.

If you have played any of the previous battlefields its much the same only with new weapons where as MAG offers far more than battlefield or mw2. Its a totally different type of game. I've been playing MAG since around September in the beta and i still play it to this day and enjoy it. While other games have come and passed ive always been playing MAG.

I've played alot of both and while I enjoy both in different ways since I picked up BC2 I haven't even looked at MAG which is a shame really as it really has the makings of an epic game but I just love the combat and stylre of BC2.

MAG is a great idea but it is far from a finished product. There are alot of balancing issues and the weapons / perks need alot of work. It's still a great experience playing with 256 players on a single map but MAG unfortunatly is not for everyone, it is either a love it or hate it experience.

BC2 is definitely an easier to pick up and play game wheres I think the more experienced players would prefer the different style that MAG brings but for me and for now at least I can't put down BC2 and can't see myself doing so for a long time!!

They have released some patches recently that have balanced it a lot more. While i could never beat SVER before now i think its a lot closer. At least you have a chance.

Battlefield snipers are slightly more annoying than MAG snipers ....only slighlty !
