So im chatting with the gf about exes and she asked me had i ever googled any of them to see if anything popped up.
I put a girl i used to date when i was 18 into google and next thing i discover she's been arrested for allegedly stabbing her husband to death..the case hasnt come to trial yet but i imagine the media interest would be extreme.
Somebody said to me "hey..why not sell the story of when you were together to a paper..might make a few bob".
I never thought of it tbh, would anybody consider doing something like that?

No, I'm not a scumbag! I wouldn't want someone to do it to me, so I wouldn't do it to them.

I once shagged Tiger Woods, but I wouldn't go blabbing about it.

    No way.

Only way I appear in a tabloid article like that is in some Joe-Duffy type scenario if I had a cause or grievance.

Nah, I wouldn't sell it, I would probably put it on boards though! :D

That said...how much money are we talking?

I'd pay the newspapers to not associate me with a crazy murderous cnut tbh!

The only people who sell stories to the papers are muppets who actually want their names in the papers.

    Think about it anyway...

I went out with killer, it could have been me....says Degsy (pictured above).

In the News of the World....or one of those trashy papers.
Only thing they are good for is if you are stuck without any bog roll and have to use it as a last resort...

    No i wouldn't sell it.
When you're in a relationship with someone you trust them with things. I wouldn't break that trust and i wouldn't want someone to do it to me..

    No.
When you open that door of telling all, sometimes it can swing back to hit you in the face in return.
Kiss and tell on an ex? No.

Depending on the angle and the public interst it could be ten grand.

    Then yeah I would.

It really depends on if she is being made victim or villain though.

If she is a villain in the court of public opinion, I would go for it.

No, on so many levels. I may be a whore of many things but no payout would be big enough for betraying trust, even transitory trust. Trust is trust IMHO.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I thought it was pretty amazing when the parents of the conjoined twins in Cork refused to sell their story to the newspapers, even though they were offered a vast sum of money to do so. They were in dire need of financial help too as both parents were not working at the time due to the circumstances. They eventually gave their story/pictures to The Irish Examiner free of charge as they were the most supportive.

Then you get these ejects that have affairs with celebrities and the like, and they're off running to the press for a few bob, with all the gory details. Do they have any morals at all? How do they sleep at night? It's sad really. Annie Murphy even wrote a book because she shagged a bishop. Christ almighty.

If my story was "How I found the cure for cancer" - possibly, maybe.
If my story was "I once snogged someone behind the bikeshed 20 years ago" - no.

Yes I would stab someone to death.

Would you even have anything interesting 'to sell?' I know if I was reading a paper I wouldn't bother with a story about the ex-boyfriend of a murderer who went out when they were 18.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,689 ✭✭✭✭OutlawPete

If it was a positive thing like:

"She was lovely, we went to the pictures, got on great, some rows like most couples .." blah blah blah.

And iff they guaranteed that they would show you the content of the article, headline etc and only if you were happy with it, would you sign off on it.

Then I can't see the problem there.

The problem is, papers are mostly full of it and they will twist what you say to make sensationalist sound bytes.

It is a moral dilemma that teaches you a lot about yourself ultimately though.

Mate of mine videoed an Irish celebrity a good while back, in a Lap Dancing Club and could easily have made twenty grand, but in the end he chickened out as he knew the person's relationship would be over.

    Not a hope.

The tabloids and Jeremy Kyles of this world can only be exterminated if we choke their content.

That said, the way someone-once-removed-from-the-ex-of-a-barely-known-person qualifies as a "celebrity", that time unfortunately isn't any time soon.

On another note, I don't think I'd want anyone who reads those rags to know anything about me.

You should go on the Gerry Ryan show with that story Degsy,
Its a radio show on 2fm featuring a fella reading the papers and commenting on human interest stories such as the above. Im not sure if they pay for interviews but it would be a good way to drum up some interest in your story and the papers would surely come sniffing around after that?

    :D

Na man. Tis a sick forum deals in human misfortune like that. Either it will come back to kick you in the arse or you'll always be expecting it to. just how I'd react. If I took the quick buck I wouldn't expect it to be consequence free.

    Your mate brings a camcorder to a lap-dancing club?:pac:

Reminds me of the time when some fellow allegedly brought a camcorder to a boards beers and everybody had a (justifiable imo) freak-out on a thread on boards the next day. Do you think anyone will pay me for that story?

Not exactly a camcorder, footage would be more a akin to this quality:

(ie, it was shot with his mobile)

I wouldn't. The money might be tempting, but people who sell their stories (relating to relationships with people in the public eye) to tabloid newspapers never gain any sort of credibility from it.
Look at Rebecca Loos. Sure, she made a fortune from selling her story about David Beckham, but no one respected her or wanted anything to do with her after!
I wonder if the money she made was enough compensation for the damage she did to her reputation and public persona.

Exactly..i mean could you ever live with yourself for the sake of a few grand to make an utter fool of yourself.

I wonder did any of the people recently convicted of murdering their husbands/wives ever post on boards?

Now that might be interesting information if you were a journalist!

There's a reason it's always cheap tarty tramps that sell these sort of stories to the papers you know.

Can't think what it is right now but there is a reason.....
