Trading in car of greater value

Just a short question here, lads. I'm just wondering would many dealers throw a bit of cash your way if the car you traded in exceeded the value of the one you're buying, or will they value it so low that it won't be worth it?

    Thanks.

Take out margin, warranty and any work needing doing and they may be of the same value mind...

    What are you trading?

Thinking of trading an '04 A4 Cabriolet 1.8T Multitronic for a Volvo C70 T5 of the same year.

    Coupe T5?

If it's a convertable I'd keep the Audi...

Yeah it's the convertible alright, they had stopped making Coupe's by 2002. I know they have problems with structural rigidity and handling, but I've experienced one before and it didn't bother me much to be honest. The Audi is starting to get a bit unreliable as well, so if I can get a good deal on the C70 then I don't think I'll have done too badly.

In the current climate I'd doubt it simply because garages want to make money rather than spend it. The best you could probably hope for is a straight swap even though the A4 is in reality is most likely worth more and sought after than the C70.

I'd try and sell the A4 privately, the season for rag tops is approaching and I think you will shift it quicker than the garage will shift the C70.

My thoughts exactly. I knew at the back of my mind that it would be highly unlikely but I just thought I'd get other people's opinions.

It needs a few things doing to it, so I might keep an eye on the C70 and see if I can shift it closer to summertime.

If the short comings dont bother you it's a nice car. As bazz said try buying cash.

Was a passenger in the Volvo before, was a bit creaky but lovely looking car

I'd say the best thing to do is ring them and ask them.

They might be willing to part with a little cash given that a 1.8 litre A4 will be alot easier for them to sell than a 2.3 litre C70. Of course this will most likely depend on what needs fixing on the A4.

Yeah, it needs a bit of bodywork around the back, but nothing major.

I'll take your advice on board and might give them a ring one of the days if the car is still there. From what I've seen, it's passed through Merlin recently as a finance repo, so that's one thing I'm not sure about.
