First of all, you'd need to apply to the Turf Club for a Qualified Rider's licence which would permit you to ride in bumpers (and charity races) on the racecourse. All info regarding the Irish Turf Club can be found at turfclub.ie as can the course requirements.

You then have to know/find a trainer (near you) who would be willing to let you ride out with them as well as having a horse suitable to be ridden by a novice in a bumper or charity race.

After that, you have to raise the money as well as hoping the balloting system goes your way as not all horses entered will get to run do to the fact that the race is over subscribed.

There's a charity race run on the last day of the Punchestown Festival, so if you were interested in going to the races there you could see what it would be like and maybe get a chance to talk to some of the riders and see what it entails. Also, there's a weekly article in the Irish Field which follows a girl who's hoping to ride in the charity race.
