You probably (hopefully) won't pass the psychological tests required to train to be an ATC, then.

here is the link with the full job spec http://www.iaa.ie/index.jsp?p=126&n=414&a=655 if not give Frank Devlin a buzz he is HR in the IAA

Link is gone due to the closing date for applications being wednesday last 7th April.

The role appears to be support engineers maintaining the communications networks, radar, VHF, control systems etc etc in the airports. Judging by the application questions.

By the sounds of it there are a few positions going. Training in Shannon for 6months and then placement to a regional airport. Salary is decent dunno why 50k is low is somepeoples eyes

50k + shift allowance good pension scheme as well may be some people are still living in the celtic tiger era:rolleyes: also the jobs there are bomb proof not a hope in getting laid off.

what type of degree is required is it more electronics or I.T based as an electrician im looking at doing a degree and electronics/electrical engineer would be the usual next step i have an interest in computers, just wondering which would be of more benifit really

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,031 ✭✭✭nogoodnamesleft

I applied for it and as far as I remember a min requirement was a degree.

Judging by the questions they were looking for someone with a bit of experience. Such questions as was the applicant Cisco certified, a rating of between 1 and 3 in Linux, transmission systems, Mv systems etc etc. I was fairly surprised thou as the application precedure was short enough decscribe your present and previous job roles in 50 words or less.

Being in the aero sector I would imagine the job will be stricly regulated and I recon the training that will be provided would be second to none.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,531 ✭✭✭glic83

so it would seem its more I.T than electrical seems like an interesting job though with good money, did you get an interview yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,592 ✭✭✭donkey balls

lads they also do outdoor work at the airports where the ILS and other systems are in place

I too applied for this position but have'nt heard anything yet.

Has anyboby heard anything from them or been called for an interview?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,031 ✭✭✭nogoodnamesleft

Heard nothing yet....the application closing date was only last wednesday so Id give it approx 2-3weeks to give them enough time to shortlist potential candiates depending on how many applied.

Id say it would be a mix and match of network engineering, electrical/electronic systems, transmission etc. I have a varied back ground some of which was in the maritime sector so heres hoping :o

Just to update this thread. The IAA have been in contact by email........and I have been selected for interview stage :D. Apparently its a a technical interview based on experience and qualifications.

Just a quick update on this as well. I have been selected for an interview.

Informed by email this morning, completed a v hard aptitude test for Radio Officer last year.

I think it's just because of my experience that I have been picked for an interview.

Anyway happy days, I wish you all the best of luck with the tests :D:D.

PS I agree this is not a job to be sniffed at. 50k + shift allowance is great cash not to mention the pension and other benefits.

Roll on the interview and please god is all I can say.

    Later.

The 50 k includes the shift allowance!. So it is 40k while under training.

40k while in training, half the country is out of work most people would love a wage packet like this, looking at doing a degree in electical engineering to keep the options open for when jobs like this come up

Correct ! and they make it clear that you are required to work shift hours. Dunno what the break down includes salary wise im sure that they will provide this detail at some stage.

Im going for the position based on that its something that I would enjoy doing over the salary. Although the salary and benefits are very appealing to me.

Few things the want me to bring before me the next day are:

    Passport
    Drivers License
    Original Copy of Degree (s)
    Passport Sized Photo

I found this a bit irregular as these are normally items you bring on ur 1st day of employment.

you have got to remember that your going for a job with the IAA(Irish Aviation Authority)they are responsible for the movement of aircraft within Irish aerospace.

you would be required to go airside(rwy, atc twr etc) that means a five year security background check before you can be issued an airside permit.
