Looking to pick up something for between 4-5k. Up to a 2 litre. Only intend on keeping it for one year then I'm hoping to pick up an 07/08 3 series coupe. Anyone spot any bargains that would hold their value well enough for a year? Currently thinking of a 7th gen celica, preferably the vvtl-i. Few nice 00-02 models for about 4-5k on donedeal. Also considering an astra bertone, older 318ci or 320d, audi tt 225 (if I could find one cheap enough), focus st170 etc.

What do you guys think of this, its in a garage just up the road from me:

Any suggestions would really be appreciated. Hoping to pick something up asap.

That Corolla would be about as fast as walking.

Honda Integra? They usually hold value fairly well. Make sure to pick up a UKDM one if you go that road though, the JDM versions pick up higher insurance. The headlights dont look as nice either IMO.

Haha ok cheers. Any links to a nice integra? Not too familiar with hondas but I have a friend who is. I've a feeling insurance on an integra is gonna kill me but sure I'll have a look

The insurance shouldnt be much worse than the Celica I'd say.

Focus ST170 would be another option. Probably not as quick as the Honda, but they arent that slow.

Cant find any nice Euro Integra's, but PM Draffodx. He has a fairly mint one that he was looking to sell a while back. He's the mod over in Modified.

I dont know anything about these cars but at 200bhp, this could be a bit of a sleeper

Nice. That'd be fairly bulletproof too, but I'd say it may be hard to sell it on again without losing too much wedge...

You would be able to pick up a tidy 200sx for under 5k at the moment including ones with some power upgrades. RWD drive too for a proper sporty drive.

It has the 190bhp VVTL-i celica engine so it would certainly have a fair kick in a straight line, not sure about handling though.

    Clio 172/182?

Cheers lads. Not too mad on the 200sx or s40. I know they're fast but dont like the look of them. What do you guys think of an 02/03 passat 1.9tdi 130bhp?

I have a 200sx and its a great car and can be had for small money. Its comfortable and fun and can be easily tuned for more go.

If it was to be a future 2nd car i'd look for a nice low mileage mx5 however. Fine car and convertible for what little summer we get.

Your own conditions rule out the Passat 130bhp. They're definately not sporty and they're not really that fast, despite what their owners will tell you

    From a 130bhp Passat to a 260bhp Rx7.......BIG difference there ! :D

The Rx7 is a VERY specialist car, you'd want to know all about them before making a decision to buy one.

http://www.irishrotary.com/ is a good place to start

Haha I know. I dont want somethin thats gonna require much maintenance over the year so maybe I should rule that one out. Always loved the rx7 though :P Dont intend on hanging onto whatever I get for more than a year.

It would require looking after but if its been looked after and is looked after you shouldn't have too much trouble.

There's no mention of an engine rebuild in that advert though and he/she mentions a new exhaust but if a new exhaust is fitted thats different to what was on it then it should be remapped, any modifications to the Rx7 without proper mapping for them can be detrimental even small ones
