I appreciate there might be a different section for this particular query but I know a lot on here have them and would more or less use them for the same thing as me.

    So what's the deal?

I recently spoke to a friend who is on his 3rd one and tells me he loves them, but by now believes that the coverage on all 3 has been really ****, for such a phone. That aside he is not impressed with the battery life, claiming it needs to be charged every day. Personally I thought that would have been the norm to have this particular requirement.

Coverage would really piss me off, there's nothing more annoying in a phone call than to have someone start with the 'helloooooooo' buzz, I normally say hello back once and if I get the same 'hellooooooo' I hang up. He mentioned one or two other flaws and said that he thinks that having one has become such a status that people genuinely feel cool having one and therefore never mention any faults when speaking about it.

Personally i have had the N95 8GB for the past 2 years and they are a fabulous phone but looking for a decent upgrade.

I don't get the hype about iPhones sure they were one of the first "smartphones" but are vastly overated IMO, there are fer better phones out there at present one in particular being http://www.pcpro.co.uk/blogs/2009/11/16/htc-touch-hd2-review-first-look/ my boss has one of these and he had an iPhone which he gave back and got a HTC and said there is no comparasion, im sorely tempted to get one myself, they are free but you've a long contract on about £30+ a month or £300+ online although it's a phone that would last you a long time

(would be great for shooting vids in a club )

I've had two so far, unfortunatly I had to sell both due to lack of $$ :(

They are bloody great, look bloody great and i'm looking to get another one as soon as funds permit (even a S/H 2g maybe).

Its not so much the features as WAY of using it IMHO, my mum was using it like a pro within 2 mins just playing around.

Not to mention some of the funky little applications out there for it (midi controller anyone!) which I really miss.

There are also other DJ specific apps, handy as an extra deck if you need it. (virtual turntable).

The battery will need charging every day if you're making tons of calls and always use 3g constantly (I mostly only used 2g unless I was using it as a modem tethered)..I was getting 2 days on average. Also turn the wireless/bluetooth off when you aren't using it.

Just bear in mind some of the pitfalls BEFORE buying

    1. No Flash Websites.

    2. No Word Doc / Excel editing. This MAY change if they bring out iwork for Ipad they might bring out for iphone too.

    3. Probably not as robust as a n95 in the "drop" scenario.. .get a case!

    4. Camera is ****E! in the dark, but the video recording actually isn't bad even in a club enviornment.

    5. You might get addicted and sell your soul to make everything in your life apple from here on in.

All in all though, one of the most perfect smart phones IMHO, with great apps, and one of the most perfect User Interfaces and featureset without giving you useless stuff out of the box (solitaire).

All things considered for the price its still competitive compared to other phones and in a nicer package (I hate big "screw holes and compartments" on laptops and phones now).

I have never felt any other phone i've had give the seamlessness of phone > computer as my iphone (i'm on mac though)

Just a shame they are still locked and pricy in Ireland (less than 500 euro for 16g in HK now .. unlocked! direct from apple!)

Oh, and I've tried pretty much all the other touch screen phones out there and the iphone "felt" the least chuggy of any others (again my opinion) .. no flaming please!

Iphones are great but they are far from perfect. You have to remember it is a computer with a phone, not the other way around. My reception is fine but others have issues. You get used to charging it when you can.

I'd get a Nexus One (the google phone) if I could right now.

The iPhone is brilliant. I work in IT and love gadgets, and as gadgets go, this is one of the best I've ever come across. I love the apps, I love the fact that it's an iPod as well, and I love the functionality - it's incredibly intuitive.

There are some interesting music apps that I haven't used as they're quite pricey to just try out, but they look cool

    http://www.apple.com/iphone/apps-for-everything/music.html

I wouldn't have believed how cool it was until I actually got one.

That's the actual size too, the 3310 was indestructible.

I don't have an iPhone but do have the iPod Touch and it really is a great little gadget. Must get me an iPhone soon too.

This however was my favourite ever mobile phone...

Thread revival here but its suddenly relevant.

Won an iTouch today and one of the first app searches I did was DJ, lots of results. I grabbed a few free ones to try out but I'm guessing they wont live up to much.

So, suggestions for apps that you've tried and liked. Wouldnt mind some kind of monome app if one exists.

The beatport app is just fantastic for passing away time while bored, listen to new tracks, if you like em, ad them to your shopping cart, and purchace when you get home!:)

I think the iPod touch is a great media player/toy, but for everyday use I just wouldn't fancy using an iPhone.

Bold 9000/9700 all the way... Touchscreens are for girls and hairdressers!;)
