From JSB to job to JSB again?

    Hey guys,

Apologies if this is a silly question, but I couldn't figure it out from the website.

I was claiming JSB for 8 months last year. I found a job in September. My contract expires in April and I don't know if it will be renewed. If it isn't and I apply for JSB again - will I be assessed all over again on stamps from a different tax year or will I be entitled to the remaining four months that I didn't claim last year and then have to apply for JSA if I don't find a job within the four months?

    Thanks!

My understanding is that if you were on JSB , normally awarded for 9 or 12 months, depending on the amount of stamps you have earned and say you sign off, you basically can sign back on and be entitled to JSB if you earn 13 weeks of stamps. In other words you should be entitled to JSB again with means testing etc. You are not as such entitled to JSB you did not use, its not a back dated process, every new claim is treated as such, a new claim but i think you will get JSB based on the amount of time you have been working since last claiming JSB

    to condense/elaborate on the above,

-after a period of employment, your application will be re assessed as a new claimaint.

-your eligibility for JSB (which is NOT means tested) is based on your PRSI contributions in the relevant tax year. For claims made in 2010, the relevant tax year is 2008.

-If you are deemed ineligible for JSB, you may qualify for JSA, at which point you will be waitlisted for a means test (wait times can be 8 weeks or more)
