Yeah guys i'm making the switch over,

was wondering had anybody seen any good retail bundle deals possibly including GOW3/blu rays etc.

if i can save money I'd rather get a good 120gb deal as i still haven't filled the 20Gb on my xbox 360 so I've no need for the xtra memory.

    Also opinions on this link

    http://www.adverts.ie/showproduct.php?product=200259&cat=138

are reciepts a must have these days when buying 2nd hand? Anything i should be watching out for when buying a 2nd hand ps3.

    Beyond!!

I wouldnt buy this second hand machine, it will be over the year old, so receipt wont be of much benefit. You could pickup LBP and Resistance online for roughly the 20 euro, granted there are a couple of nice blu rays included, but not exactly worth the money. I assume you are buying this for gaming, more so than using it for viewing movies.

Also, with these older model PS3, after a couple of years of use, the blu ray laser may be half worn out, and there is also the very real possibility of the YLOD failure which seems to, funnily enough be happening to an awful lot of boardsies members at the moment that have the older model.

On the memory aspect of things, I would recommend gettiing the 250gig slim ps3 because, unlike the 360, a lot of ps3 games will have to install data to your hard drive, wether you want it to or not, trust me, this quickly uses up space, not to mention DLC etc... I had an 80gig in mine, recently replaced it with a 500gig as the 80 filled up mad fast.

In a nutshell, go with the slimline, okay, the guy says "barely used", but, in selling second hand goods, that's just the same as you buying johnnys off a lad on a street corner that looks like Del Boy and having him tell you, "you'll be custhy son".

You cant believe it, because you dont know if its true.

Buy a new one and you wont have to worry about comeback if it does fail within 12 months, and space wont be an issue.

There is a rumoured GOW3 bundle out since March 17th according to amazon.fr but no sighting of it here yet, afaik there is a Heavy Rain bundle available right now, but dont know of the deals price wise here in Ireland, have a look here for what prices to expcet.

I personally wouldn't want to buy one without checking that it is in full working order.
Actually load up a game to ensure that the BD laser isn't shagged, listen out for excessive fan noise... Check the screws for any sign of the PS3 being opened (and warranty thusly voided)
Much like people offloading 360s that have suffered from RROD, people could be trying to offload their repaired PS3s

TBH, unless you want a launch model for backwards compatability, I'd advise you to buy new...

    /edit
None of that was directed at the advert in the original post btw - I haven't even clicked the link!

Cheers for the holla back lads,

I will prob end up buying a new one.

The fact that Ps3 games part install onto the hard drive was something i was unaware of, cheers for that info.

I just want it today. gonna take a run into town and walk about henry's st. So i guess the question is has anybody seen any good bundle deals in the likes of GAME, gamestop, HMV, Smyths etc.

I recently replaced my old YLODed PS3 - went with a 120Gb Slim + any new game from Gamestop, price was Euro 330, so think that was 10 Euro cheaper than getting them separate.

Would recommend the 120 over the 250 as I think the only difference is storage space.

Hard-drive replacement/upgrade on PS3 is trivial - only needs a small philips head screwdriver and takes most SATA 2.5" drives, and AFAIK does not void a warranty (no sticker on HD part).

Also, PS3 will read from a FAT32 formatted external harddrive - so if you want MP3/DivX files stored on it and it fills up, you can expand with one of those.

Can say on my old machine I barely filled 100 Gb with install and save files from close to 40 titles over 2 years. Fewer and fewer games require an install, and even those that do (Heavy Rain, Arkham Asylum) you'd be talking around 4 Gb per game max.

Cant remember what offers they have off the top of my head, but sure their only 5 mins walk from eachother, so I guess just go in and see what deal they will do for you.... :)

    €349.99 = PS3 250gb + God of War + Battlefield Bad Company 2 free in GAME

Thats a decent bundle with BBC2 and GOW3, don't let them sell you their extra warranty, you are covered by your statutory rights.

I'm just back from GAME, great great deal.

And if you're not a fan of GOW3 then you can pick up the equally as classy Heavy Rain.

And i used to think GAME were ****, they've really done a 360degree spin on what they used to charge their customers.

Thanks to everybody, See you'all on the battlefield later? PSN ID: ricosruffneck

it was quite a funny buying experience though,

told the guy at the counter what i wanted and before going to the backroom to get it he told me the tale of the dreaded malfunctioning blu ray drives and how i should deff buy their 2yr warranty,

having worked in GAME before i let him say his story and then he went out to the backroom after i said a polite 'no thanks'.

Then as he left i was ambushed by a manager who told me i needed a HDMI cable and that i'd be unable to watch the blu ray without it, the reason it was so funny was that there were basically a small line of employees ranging from managers to staff each with their own little sales pitch on a different random accessory. I love them for trying but i knew what i wanted.

Turns out they didn't have battlefield in ILac centre but it was in dawson street. So made my escape and went up and heard the whole sales story again from another 2 fellas. I think they're using the divide and conquer sales tactics these days

But i got my 250gb with GOW 3 and Battlefield BC2 for 350€, now thats a story to tell your grandkids.

I had the exact same experience 6 months ago, on a similar deal. I got the 2 year warranty story 3 times, it was so annoying I nearly went elsewhere.

Nope, they should have one in fairness...........

I'd recommend the Final Fantasy 250Gb bundle, even if your not a big fan of the game, it looks a bit pink in the picture but it is white.

Bets PS3 Slim deal ever was in Xtravision last xmas and this January, I was lucky enough to avail of it before they changed it.

    250 GIG PS3 Slim + Uncharted 2 + Extra Dualshock 3 controller. for 350 quid.

Saved 125 euro by purchasing that bundle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 355 ✭✭theShawzer

That last bundle ^ was pretty sweet. At the moment tho you can get a 250gb slim with GOW III and any other new game for €360.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,315 ✭✭✭A-Trak

Will be picking that Game Bundle this evening - 250GB +GOWIII and either BF:BC2 or Just Cause 2.

Could some one tell me what cables come boxed with the console? I'll component for hooking to my surround sound and can't seem to find what comes with it.

Also, As I have Battlefield already on xbox and the game bundle won't allow me to get both Heavy Rain and GOWIII together, I'll throw BFBC2 or Just Cause up for swap on adverts for Heavy Rain - so if anyone has heavy rain and has a preference to swap for either, let me know and I'll get that one and throw it up on adverts.

Are any of you lot experiencing a shortage of machines?

I had ordered the Heavy Rain bundle last week from Play, but now they are out of stock, along with every other store in the UK.

How long do these shortages generally last?

is xtravision the best around at the moment for bundles?
we have game stop here as well
just checked play.com.does this include the controllers??

as u are probably aware Im know nothing about these Im buying it for someone else!

Do play.com ship electronics to Ireland now?

Fake Edit: FFS, I was thinking the 250GB PS3 Slim with uncharted 2 was a steal at £270 plus free delivery (€304), but then I click the Euro price button - and it jumps to €351!!!!!

    FFS what the hell Play?!

I'm guessing they wont accept if I ordered the sterling price?

Your just noticing that now ? I have used play for years because they wont let you pay in sterling, they force you to pay in euro and the price increase is ridiculous.

In my opinion they are much better... I got a 250 GB Slim , Uncharted 2 , and extra dual shock 3 controller for Euro 350.

That deals gone since early January, but there are two good deals still there, The uncharted + Heavy Rain one, and the Blu ray bundle is great if you or your receiver are going to be using PS3 for Blu ray regularly. Definatly buy a 250 GB bundle, they are way better value than thet 120 GB ones. Heres the Link scroll down to the bottom of the page, all of their bundles are there.

    http://www.xtravision.ie/games.aspx

Id reccomend them more that Gamestop or Game or any of the others buy Irish! :)

I know that happens with everything on play.com . Must have to legally charge us out VAT rate which i cant understand because its going to Britain's economy?

Unfortunately that's Uncharted 2 OR Heavy rain, not both in that bundle.

I won't ever need 250gb, the gamestop deal with the 120gb plus uncharted 2 for €330 seems to be the cheapest.

Thats a pretty lousy deal to be honest with you and it doesnt seem 'cheap' one bit.

I paid only 20 euro more than you for more than twice the hardrive size (250 GB) ( Which you do actually need to be honest because Ive already used 200 GIG on Movies, Music, Videos, and Pictures) + Uncharted 2 among thieves and an extra Dualshock 3 controller which is worth 60 euro.

Your practically getting scammed with your deal, typical of Gamestop.

You might need it, but maybe Elessar doesn't. I have double that in movies etc, but stream them to the PS3, then get rid when I have watched them. Its an EU directive that any company selling in the Eu has to charge the VAT at the rate of the country they are sending to. Has been that way for years.

I have been seriously looking into finally purchasing a PS3 since the price drop and the new Slim came out. I think the release of GOW III has put me over the edge and i will be picking one up. I'm just wondering has anyone seen any amazing deals around?

Have looked online but not really seen anything that catches my attention.
Would be looking to get 250G Slim with 2-3 decent games(Have a friend who can lend me most of the back catalogue of games).

I actually bought mine in Gamestop, who had the best deal I could see.

250Gb with either Heavy Rain or GOWIII AND any other game for €360.

Got myself Heavy Rain and Uncharted 2 (hint: Get it!)

I checked Gamestop the other day and the best offer was 300 for the console (and then I could trade the joypad in for 20 euro/25 store credit). This was for a 120gb slim. What do you think of this?

Also, what sort of prices are HMV charging?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,509 ✭✭✭NotorietyH

I bought a 120 gig Slim in GAME on Monday with any game (bar collector's editions) for 329.99. Prob not the best deal but it suited me as I had most of the other games that were being bundled with it.
