I've been to Inis Oir, three times; never been to the other two. It's way smaller, I think there are 3 pubs, maybe 4. And a shop. But the craic always mighty.

Best way to get there is from Doolin.

Was just there for Tedfest, mighty craic. Late bar most probable. There's a hotel with a bar, a bar by the same name up the road, same owners, but the best craic and nicest people were in Neds, which is also more old school Pub, it's next door to the hostel.

Aran ferries run from Rosamhíl too, they do the main island boat, and the smaller boat stops at inis meain, then Inis Oirr.

Note Doolin ferry doesn't run all year, and, while the shortest distance at sea, it is not the easiest by a long shot, if you're coming from Galway and have no car - if the latter's the case, get the bus from Merchant's road to the Rosamhíl boat.

Don't think those buses go from Merchant's Rd anymore: they removed the bus stops when the tour buses moved to the private bus station.

They may go from Dock Rd, but I'm not 100%: ask when you book your ticket.

It's nice to go from Doolin if you're coming from that direction but if you're going from Galway City then the ferry from Ros a' Mhíl is a much better option. You can get a bus from Merchant's Road if you're not driving. More info on ferry times etc. here: http://www.aranislandferries.com/inis_oirr.php

As for pubs & craic...the place is hard to beat, nice people, no guards so if you're looking for a late pint it's nearly always an option if there's any sort of a crowd still in the pub. Like a lot of places, it's a beautiful place in good weather. Have fun.

Been there a few times and it is by far the best of the three islands. Don't be under the impression that the pubs don't close because there are no guards on the island, but it is still possible to get a pint at 2 a.m. on weekends.

It was. But then there was the famous case of the under cover guard who came on the island and raided every pub. Things have been more regulated since then but there pubs who do late hours like everywhere else.
