How to clean up my Win 7 desktop

I've the 64 bit version of win 7. And no problems whatsoever. But I do think there may be a few bits of malware/viruses laying around somewhere.

I currently use the free version of avast, which again I've never had any problems with.

As I'm not too techy regarding this stuff, can someone recommend a route to take that I can clean out and freshen up my system?

Start with a defrag then ccleaner? Or what way would you suggest I go about?

    Thank you.

Install Malwarebytes, free version - click HERE
    Thats will get your sorted.

For additional virus protection in general, use free Microsoft Security Essentials: HERE

One of the best tools for sorting out a system complete is Tune-up Utilities 2010, see HERE
Give the 30 day full use version a go. Its a great tool and easy to understand and use.

    +1 for MalwarebBytes.

SuperAntispyware is also good. I use MS Essentials at home without any issues. Have a look here for for some standalone scanners also.

always clean before you defrag, otherwise you're defragging the files you're going to delete! I find Auslogics defragger pretty good, along with defraggler or the windows defreg. CCleaner always gets a thumbs up from me.
