She might be entitled to insurance if they were legally split up at the time.

I like how she just assumed she would get the house "The house was both our pride and joy. He made it clear that he wasn't going to move out of the house but I expected him to do so.

‘I was looking for accommodation for him on the internet.’". Of course she was right to assume she would as the law stands. Regardless of whether she bought it or contributed to it. She may well have bought it lock stock and barrel herself of course and fair enough in that case. But I know too many men who have lost houses in divorce cases where they had bought the place. In one case the chap had bought it in the late 80's for small money and had paid off the last installment in the early noughties and three months later his wife announced it was over(to the shock of all, including her own family). He's been living hand to mouth in a rented flat since.

TBH if I ever got into that situation and I genuinely felt it was no fault of mine, then yes Id burn the place to the ground. I'd make sure I didnt burn myself to the ground though.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.
