Changing Clubs / Membership

Hi all, have a quick question but just a bit of background information first.

I'm changing clubs this year - for reasons I don't want to discuss publicly here on a forum if that’s ok? I wasn’t happy with my old club for a bit and a good friend of mine rang me there a few weeks ago informing me of a good deal at the club he plays at. I have played it twice before and while it’s a tough course, I liked it. He brought me out for a round and showed me around the place. Got to meet a few members, some of which I knew and I got to meet some of the committee who were very friendly. Overall I was very impressed with the new setup in the club.

Now my dilemma, I had heard nothing form my old club about my renewal so I called into them a few weeks ago to see what the story was. I won’t go into it but they “forgot” about me and forgot to send out my renewal. I told them to renew it and continue with my monthly direct debit – now my question…..I now wish to cancel this membership. Is this allowed even though the year has started? I haven’t paid anything yet either. I don’t want to fall out with this club but I no longer wish to be a member.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

Have you signed anything for this years DD?

Seems they forgot about you, so you have decided to go elsewhere. Simply inform them you are leaving. Regardless, they aren't going to be best pleased you're leaving so the amicable thing may not work out.

no, haven't signed anything for this year. My d/d went out on the 20th lof the month ast year so will wait till monday or tuesday to see if anything goes out.

ideally i don't want to fall out with the club and still wish to play open events there. i know they took in a lot of new members this year so they mighn't be too bothered about loosing one.

i think in this day and age and with the current doom and gloom on things it is no suprise to any club for members to drop out. I dont see a problem here and to be honest by the sounds of it your obviously upset over other things so all you can be is upfront and honest about your decision and hope they take it in the correct manner its meant. all you can control is your half of the deal if they take it wrongly there is nothing you can do. I wouldnt worry about the direct debit thing, you were genuine when asked them to renew it and have had a change of mind. notify the club first of your decision and then cancel your direct debit, you have signed nothing so no big deal

I do think you will be respected more if you meet it head on with openess and honesty to your current club and this will give you your best chance of keeping it friendly, after that you can do no more,
