Hello, I'm looking for information on where to source traps.
I have a serious cat infestation (not my own)and my small garden is the preferred location for these cats to defacate in. My two year old daughter wants out of the house now that the weather is improving and I need to remove these animals. I fear that squirrel traps would be too small, has anyone seen or know where I might locate suitably sized traps?
    Thanks in advance.

if these are domestic cats and belong to a neighbour of some sort then you could be leaving yourself open to some frosty encounters. if however they are ferral cats then i think you can trap away but dont quote me on that. . .

check out donedeal.ie dingle poultry always have an ad on there for a wide range of traps. .

we had a simmilar problem with an old disuesd hen shed near our house when we were only nippers we got a dog. soon sorted the problem and we had a loyal companion for a further fifteen years. r.i.p sal.

Thanks guys, I'll have a look.
My tag and release scheme involves a silencer on my .22, so nobody should be any the wiser. My immediate neighbours don't have pets so my conscience is clear.

Do any of you know would the cat squeal much if it was trapped?
I would not want anything too obvious too attract attention.

Very same problem in my back garden.

Lads, surely there are other ways of dealing with unwelcome cats in your back garden than trapping and shooting them?!:eek:

A nice big dog is just one humane, and potentially more feasable, idea that springs to mind.
Also, isn't trapping cats going to be a bit like herding cats? They're wary enough creatures at the best of times (if they're feral, I wouldn't bet on capturing too many of them)

(Apart from the legality of whether its allowed or not - but maybe some of the other lads could clarify that)

How are you planning to shoot them with a .22, silenced or not? I wouldn't have thought it would be too smart to shoot downward into them, bearing in mind the ricochet issues with the .22 rounds. (BTW Would an airrifle not be a better and safer job?)

Or are you planning to hang them up as targets with a nice backstop?:D:rolleyes:

Sounds like you're looking forward to this cat-cull with a wee bit too much glee:D:D:rolleyes:

The cat wont squeal if its caught in a live catch cage, just keep it covered! Caught many over the years whilst mink trapping, all safely releast of course!!!! ;) What u do with it after its caught is up to yourself, bring it for a drive maybe!!!

Don`t attempt to use a .22 on cats! There as hard as nails! much hardier than a fox, so im told!!! If its not killed instantly, and it turns out not to be wild, it could make it back home and that means trouble!!

There is a guy Called Newcastle West Poultry, has has a massive range of live traps right up to fox size, I saw his stall at a market a few weeks back and was impressed.
If you do live trap, stick the trap in a big sack and run the car exhaust into it for a few minutes, no problems and no ricochet risk.
