    A Paddy's Day blow-outaway.

    http://www.tennessean.com/article/20100318/GALLATIN01/100318091/Leprechaun+bank+robber+identified+as+Nashville+%E2%80%9CBad+Santa
A man shot dead after robbing a Gallatin bank dressed as a leprechaun is the same man who robbed a Hermitage bank dressed as Santa in December, according to Gallatin police.

Two men — one dressed like a leprechaun — chose St. Patrick's Day to rob First State Bank, located at 1135 Nashville Pike in Gallatin, firing at police who chased them down busy city streets to a field behind a subdivision, where they were shot dead in a gun battle with officers.

David Christopher Cotton of Wildwood Valley Road in Brentwood was identified as the man in the leprechaun suit who robbed the bank, and Jonathan Ryan Skinner was identified as the driver of the getaway vehicle, according to Gallatin police. Skinner was a student at Western Kentucky University.

Skinner was shot dead by officers; Police believe Cotton committed suicide, but await verification via autopsy.

The robbers have been linked to a Dec. 22 robbery of Suntrust Bank, located at 4809 Old Hickory Boulevard in Hermitage, during which a man dressed as Santa filled a red sack with money and fled the scene in a gray car parked in a nearby church parking lot, according to Gallatin police, working in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Bank Robbery Task Force. The getaway car used in the Gallatin robbery was a silver Toyota Corolla, according to Sgt. Bill Storment of Gallatin police.

An investigation is ongoing as to whether or not the men were involved in any other unsolved bank robberies.

Neither civilians nor police were harmed in either robbery.

Kristin Helm, a spokeswoman for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, said the agency currently isn't involved in the shooting probe.

Helm said the TBI looks into officer-related shootings "nine times out of 10," but the bureau only gets involved when the police agency or local prosecutor makes the request.

As of Thursday morning, authorities in Gallatin hadn't made that request, she said.

A joint investigation between the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office, F.B.I. Robbery Task Force and Gallatin Police Department remains ongoing.
