Looking for some help with the honeymoon, I think I'm late planning it for June (am I ?). OH always wanted to go to mexico but I know little about honeymoon destinations there and its just before Hurricane Season; Maldives is rainy season; Mauritius, its winter season; Any suggestions outside of europe or dubai and without visa hassle ?

I went to San Fran, Vegas, San Diego, Santa Barbara and back to San Fran last year for a holiday.

    Flew Dublin San Fran direct
Flew San Fran to Vegas, then hired a car and drove back to San Fran via the above cities.

Flew over the Canyon in a Helicopter and won a few quid in Vegas. Good spot

    Went for 2 weeks

TBH, If you really want to see mexico, I don't think you should let the fact that it's just before hurricane season put you off. We're going to the caribbean in October - right smack bang in the middle of the season.

I've been speaking to a fantastic TA who rightly pointed out that hurricane season is nearly 6 months long. I know of people who prefer to travel to that area in september and october because you get a lot more for your money, it is less crowded and the chances of you being caught up in a catastrophic storm are pretty slim.

If a hurricane does hit, except for in extreme circumstances, we very rarely hear about it over here. Because it's nothing more than a day long storm that they are usually equipped to handle (Obviously there are exceptions to this like katerina etc but for the most part).

I know of one man who is from barbados, he travels back to barbados evey year in the middle of hurricane season :) the slim threat of a hurricane does not put him off. And then there is the fact that if you do get caught in a storm, it blows over pretty quickly.

Actually, just thinking now, a close friend went for a bit of a round the world trip a few years ago and got caught in a hurricane in either florida or mexico (I'm sorry I can't remember). She panicked a bit (understandable) and the locals thought it was funny. She said they spent the day in the hotel looking out at a storm and feeling cosy and the next morning, everything was back to normal.

Of course you may not want to take the risk but if you really want to go to mexico - it might be worth it.

An alternative might be to look at a cruise which stops in mexico. The ships have a lot of advance warning, so if there is a tropical storm or a hurricane, they can alter their course avoiding it.

I went to Aruba in the caribbean a few years ago and it was fantastic - really lovely people and great beaches. Its outside the main hurricane zone too, just off Venezuela I think. Flew through Amsterdam as its a Dutch island.
