I write here to enlist your expert knowlege if I may

could someone please explain the whole concept of placepots for me?

Im a self confessed slight outside each way gambler. iv never back a favorite in my life. i much prefer an e/w bet and Im quite good at picking placed horses and indeed, grey hounds (usually between the prices of 8/1 and 12/1)

would i be better advised to do my betting with the placepot system to increase my profits? (as I dont be big on e/w singles)

if so, how do i do it!?

    thanking you in advance,

    Scouser

a placepot is basicly picking a horse to finish in the places i.e 1,2,3 or 1,2,3,4 in 16+ runner handicaps in the first six races at a race meeting. If one of the horses fails to be placed in one of the six legs of the placepot then your bet has lost!
you can include multiple picks in a leg but will cost you more i.e if you place a €1 placepot and have 2 horses picked in legs 1 + 3 then its worked out like so
    2 x 1 x 2 x 1 x 1 x1 = 4 x €1 costing you a total of €4

is there a specific docket for making these choices?

    how is the 'pot' calculated?

also, if u select two horses, does only 1 have to become placed?

yeah there is placepot sheets in your bookies. the pot is calculated by the tote dividend depending on how many people have got the placepot correct. so the more outsiders placed the better:D and yeah only one of your selections has to be placed but in the example i gave you, if only one was placed in each race the you would have a €1 placepot, if the 2 were placed in the first and only one in the 3rd then you would have a €2 placepot, .i.e the dividend x 2. and if all were placed then you dividend would be x 4. hope this helps

    thank you very much!

one last question, would the dividend be the same in my local betting shop as it is at a large meeting such as cheltenham? or would the pot be relevant to each location i.e small in a small shop, large at a large meeting etc

well thats if you put €6 on it! if you just pick one horse for each race then its worked out at 1 x1 x1 x1 x 1 x 1 = 1 so if you just want to do a €1 placepot it will only cost you €1 or you could put €6 on it or whatever stake you like, it wont be doubled because you dont have multiple selections in any race

You don't have to do the stake for £1/€1, you can do it for
5 cent (I think that's the minimum stake) but the dividend is declared to a £1/€1 so if you did the Placepot for stake of 10c, you would divide the Dividend by 10 to get your share.
The dividends are normally much larger when no favourites are palced or when there is a big race meeting, Like Cheltenham, which would lead to a big pool.
Dividend yesterday was 2,756 at Cheltenham but more of a surprise was Huntingdon which paid nearly 4k for a £1 staked.
The more selections you do, the more chances you have but at an increased cost.
    So using the examples
1 horse in the 6 races is 1*1*1*1*1*1 which is a stake of 1
2 horses in each race is 2*2*2*2*2*2 which would be 64 bets x stake.
3 selections in 2 races and 2 in rest is 3*3*2*2*2*2 = 144 bets x stake and so on.

but the increased stake = bigger dividend?

    yes
    well, it depends
if you do a 5eu placepot with one runner in each
and it clicks then its 5 times the dividend
if you were to do 2 horses in 1st 3 races and one
in the last three it would be
2x2x2x1x1x1 which works at 8 bets
if you did 8x1eu multiples and you got six placed
you get the dividend for one euro
if both your selections in the first race are placed
you get twice the dividend..2euro...etc etc
