why oh why oh why do i constantly get the pop up telling me my computer is not fully protected despite when i check my anti virus and firewall etc they are all enabled. THEN, when i used to just click on "fix" and all would be ok, now what happens is that when i click on "fix" i keep getting "unable to fix due to error" and i just keep at it and EVENTUALLY it's fixed. sometimes i get frustrated and turn off the computer and do it all again.
    what-up???

If you haven't got this allready, download it and update it and then run a scan and see what it throws up.

    Malwarebytes

i have donw this. it first time it scanned about 800 errors(!) but then fixed them. i've done it since and it's pulled up a few - 10/20 but it seems to then "fix" them.
paid $28 for the privilege :(

YET, mcAfee still tells me at least a few times every log-in that pc is not protected. while granted it's not happening continously like before, it's still to often! i've gone thro the settings ( i think) and it tells me that firewall etc are enabled.

why is this happening? even tho it does "fix" itself, it takes a couiple minutes each time and is really annoying and disruptive.
    thanks

Download Spybot, it's completely free and very good.

Two very good suggestions which you won't go wrong with OP.

You could also try the 30 day full repair ability with Tune-Up Utilities, to see will that find anything also. A great tool.

i tired the first suggestion - put me onto this tool that i had to pay for. can you ever over-do the downloads? i mean i have also done the "deep scan" with McAfee. yersteday it threw up that my virus protection was disabled. then it "fixed" it. i don't know how these things become disabled in the first place and should the other programme not be able to resolve? it picks up "errors" then "fixes" them but i have the same problem.

ha, NOW mcAfee ( i installed an up-date yest) tells me there is a prob with Boards.ie. to remedy the situation, i'd need to "enhance" the site security tool which i have to pay for!! is this having a laugh ot what?!

Just get rid of McAfee off your computer, it's not good.

Download app remover and it will get rid of any anti virus off your computer http://www.appremover.com/ Keep malware bytes if you have it!!!

when you've that done just download Microsoft sercurity essentials it's 100% free with no catches, that should solve your problems http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

Sounds like you've a nasty and persistent infection.

Head over to the Virus and Malware forum, read the "I think I have a virus" - Please Read & Try BEFORE Posting (Updated 12/02/2010) sticky and try as much of that as you can, then start a new thread having followed the sticky instructions. ASJ112 will help you as required.

As for anti-virus/spyware/maware etc tips read Malware Prevention Tips for the definitive Boards recommendations.

    Malwarebytes should be free: http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Ditch McAfee, as suggested, plenty of good free alternatives. Using Microsoft Security Essentials myself, seems grand.

Im Running boards.ie on many machines with several different configurations (XP/Vista/Win7 Avast/MSE/Norton) And can say pretty confidently theres nothing wrong with the site. Aside from one issue 6 months ago which may or may not have been related to the site.

It sounds like a false positive at best and at worst devious shilling.

Malwarebytes has a free version and a pay version with real time protection.

Malwarebytes is good to run every so often but for realtime I would go with MSE or Avast myself, if you were going the clear and free route. If you plan on paying get a full security suite that includes a firewall etc.
