My iPhone was constantly crashing on starting up, so I decided to restore it. But when I try to restore it, the iPhone cuts out and as a result the restore fails. Now Im stuck with an iPhone that gives me the "Connect to iTunes" message.

Ive tried about 5 times to restore it but the iPhone crashes at the very same time, each time I go to restore it. I recon I have a dodgy iPhone which is frustrating because I only have it 5 minutes.

    Any tips would be appreciated.

press and hold the home and sleep button together until the apple logo comes up, it should turn back on then, i restored mine last night and had the same prob, nearly had a heart attack when it didnt work at first

But it turns on fine. The iPhone keeps crashing mid way through the restore, and as a result wont restore at all.

Are you getting a particular error message?

I get an error message number 9 on Windows and 20 when I try it on a mac.

Oddly I get further with the restore on a Windows than a Mac.

Ive realised that the USB I was given with the phone is broke at the end. I used this cable to charge the phone. Could this of caused the iPhone damage?

It was bought second hand on Adverts, out of warranty too. Absolutlely raging because I had it 2 minutes, it needed charging so I charged it. It charged fine, then I turned on the WiFi and it crashed and when I tried to turn it back on it would constantly crash at the Apple logo screen. So I tried a restore and it still crashes since.

I recon that when I tried to charge it, it messed it up as alot of the silver wires inside the USB are broke.

Dman what exactly happens when it crashes on windows? When mine used to restore I remember it seemed to take ages and crash i.e give error and a number. The little bar would just keep moving and then an error would appear.

Trying to boot I would get the apple logo...i cried then manned up. When mine took ages while it was doing it I took the lead out of the iphone and plugged it in again and it started restoring.

When restoring, I get as far as the loading bar on the iPhone then the iPhone screen flashes white for a second then the Apple logo comes on. iTunes then gives me an error messgae.

While the iphone is plugged in hold the home button and the power button at the top for 20 seconds and it should reboot.

Do you even get the chance to restore?

No, it just starts to restore (the loading bar comes on the screen) but it crashes.

I appreciate all the help guys.

How long does it do the attempt restore before it give an error?

As I said while its doing it (mine took 30 seconds before it crashed so i had time to unplug) I plugged my iphone out and back in again and it actually started restoring. I had nothing to lose as I thought I bricked mine too but it worked.

The bar doesnt load at all. But saying that, I attempted the restore once again 2 mins ago and the bar started to load so I might be getting somewhere.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275
Error 9: This error occurs when the device unexpectedly drops off of the USB bus and communication stops. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB isolation troubleshooting, using a different USB dock connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.
