Hi all, Have a son that was made redundant in his 4th and final yr of his apprenticeship. He still has to complete phase 7 in college, and thay said they wont hold him back. Does anyone know anything about the ESB sponsoring apprentices. or is there any way to complete his yr. such a waste. and he is not alone.

Talk to FAS. They had a program to get those in the final year to finish their apprentice.

    It is here: http://fas.ie/en/About+Us/News/18th+November+2008.htm

    READ IT NAOH!!!!
If you are a FÁS registered apprentice and your employment has been terminated (made redundant) due to insufficient work being available to sustain your employment as an apprentice, please ensure you:
    - inform FÁS Services to Business immediately of your redundant status (see contact details below)
    - register with your local FÁS Employment Services Office for assistance in securing new employment to enable you to continue your apprenticeship
    - keep FÁS Services to Business informed of all details relating to your apprenticeship employment with a FÁS approved employer so that this time may be credited in calculating the finish date of your apprenticeship.

FÁS has put in place an interim measure whereby apprentices who are made redundant can progress to the next off-the-job training phase of their apprenticeship in line with current scheduling criteria.

Information regarding employment vacancies can also be accessed by telephoning FÁS Jobs Ireland at Freephone 1800 611 116 or on the FÁS website (www.fas.ie).
