    Greetings all,

I cant find one thread dedicated to the Open Mic Venues.
Can we make this one ?(Mods :)) I'm interested in attending some, and i know other people who are also interested. What do we think?

    Basically, listing:
    Venue name,
    address,
Night open mic session is on,
If it is generally targetted for one thing (i.e - comedy only, Singer songwriter only, Death Metal only, Soul only, Rap etc)

    Any other details. :) Thanks

Hi there. Here is a link to an open mic that is running into its second year in Donegal town. Check it out for ideas. It was getting crowds of up to 300 people last July and August and was wide open to musicians of all ages and standards.

Myself and few cohorts run one in O'Donoghue's on Suffolk Street, Dublin 2. We go every Tuesday and have had very diverse acts, from comedians to metal to 'shoe-gazey' stuff - even had a Clancy Brothers tribute band. That was fun :D

The night itself, or at least our intentions from the start, would be to have this as open for everyone as possible, all ages, genders, areas of artistry - whether it's someone who rarely gets out of their bedroom venue or someone who would be more seasoned as a performer. The venue itself is a fairly busy pub - it's not a night where you can hear a pin drop, but it is always good skit and the regulars who come down are very welcoming. To be honest, the night has really gone from strength to strength which we're thrilled about.

As far as I know, we are also very soon to be running some drinks promotions - 3 bottles of beer for a tenner, or the like. So, if you there's a gand os spectators joining you, it's a perk for all involved I suppose. :P

We never take advance bookings. As I said, it's open to all but you'll need to come down on the night and put your name on the list. Depending on the how many people we have, you will get from 3-5 songs each or 15-20 minutes if you are a non-musician. We usually kick off around 8.30 - some nights the bill is full at 8.45, some nights we still have a wee bit of time at the end.

So that's the skinny, everything I can tell ya. Hopefully we'll see you tomorrow :)

I've played the open mic in O'Ds and I can vouch for the soundness of the people running it. Well worth going in - even if just to listen.

It's a drinking chatty pub so be ready for that - it's not a listening room. Nice PA and you're treated with respect by the people running the open mic.
