Signing for Social Welfare credits

Am I right in thinking that receiving social welfare "credits" is exactly the same as paying prsi contributions when it comes to qualifying for the state contributory pension or is there a reduced contributory pension depending on the proportion of contributions to credits.
Could someone who say never worked at all in their lives qualify for exactly the same pension as someone who works continuously from age 18 - 66.
Was talking to a woman recently who works in the home (kids etc..) who is just signing for credits presumably to have entitlement to contrib pension. Her husband has very highly paid semi-state job so he will have a very substantial pension and I suppose she would not receive anything on a means test.
    Thanks

Sign for your credits. Remember each credit is the equivalent of one week's A1 stamp. If you do not sign for your credits, the matter could come back to haunt you when you want to retire. It can be a minefield, but please sign for any credits you can procure.
