    Hey Guys,
I'm setting up my own business soon as a sideline to my 9 to 5 job and was wondering does anyone know what I have to do to register as a company and get a vat reg number. I don't want to spend money on a solicitor and want to do as much as I can myself to get up and running. Its a service business. Any help would be appreicated
    cheers

What exactly is the service you are providing? Without that nobody will be able to advise you.

Go to a company formation office - they charge €250.00 but they take care of the legalities and will set you up.

All you have to do is to tell them the name of the entity that you wish to incorporate and you need to supply them with the names/addresses of the company directors (a limited company has to have a minimum of 2 directors) and a company secretary (who can also be a company director).

When the company starts trading - contact the Revenue and request them to issue you with a VAT number.

    Simple.

right now, do yourself a a favour and do nothing, or become unemployed. Revenue will scre u otherwise. there's just no good reason right now to go into business.

    I'm angry at the moment.

Thats assuming he wants to go down the route of a limited company.

OP it depends on the service you are offering really. If its a small business etc then you could registers a business name and go the sole trader route and still be registered for VAT. If its a company you wish to setup then you may need to look at the options of setting up a limited company. It comes down to what the type of business is you wan to setup so without that we cant advice you with specific information.

You might be angry but your post offers no advice or help to the OP.

There is plenty of good reasons to go into business right now, cheap rent, service costs have dropped etc. Its better to see him willing to get up and go and and try setup his business than sit at home twiddling his thumbs.

Ok, I know, was just pissed off last night,. but u feel it's u vs the revenue/giovernment/the world and they're all out to tax u to death and u can't do this, do that, bundles of red tape etc. It's not exactly made easy and on the dole, u are guaranteed €196, but going into busines, u could bring homea weekly wage of €0.
