    Hey
Was wondering if anyone could give advice about Amsterdam. I was thinking of going over during the summer, preferably early June time with my boyfriend. I've only been once before when I was about 14, and I didn't stay in the city itself so I barely remember anything. We'd probably go for a long weekend (either leaving Friday morning or coming back on Monday night, or both) and was wondering if anyone knew of any reasonably priced but clean and safe hostels? I definitely want somewhere to lock my bags with nice, friendly staff in a fairly central location (if all these things are possible!)

What things are essential to visit? I'd really like to see the Anne Frank house but last time I was there the queue was horrendous. I'd like to go to a museum or two as well, and welcome recommendations for coffee shops or just cool places to chill out a bit!

I was in Amsterdam last month no need to queue for the Anne Frank House, buy a reservation at home and skip the queue:

Canals, Van Gogh Museum, Vondel Park, Rijksmuseum (except most of it is closed for refurbishment) Rooftop cafe in the Metz & Co. shop, Dam Square, the Berlage Building, take a bus to go see the dams at the North Sea, the flower markets, some good bars around the Spui area, check out both the Paradiso and the Melkweg for any decent gigs before you go, the list is endless....

Stayed at Hotel Freeland at the start of this month. Central and cheap. It has great reviews on lonelyplanet and tripadvisor also. Not quiet a hostel but rather a 2 star hotel. Close to the museum quarter also.

Do a boat trip around the canals. The day ones are very interesting and fun. The night ones are kind of lame as there is not much to see.
