I am completing my forms for Supplementaty Welfare for Mortage Assistance and Medical.

I have saving of about €30K from an SSIA I never cashed - If I declare this on the form will I be refused mortage interest assistance and medical card.

Would it be advisable just to cash it in and withdraw the money today and then not declare it as it is no longer saings.

Or just declare it as a sum of €30K of little relevence for these claims.

    Any advice.

not 100% sure in this case but when i had to fill in forms for few other walefare benifits they asked for all my bank account and statements and required to view my savings.... i would think that it would be best not to show it
if you have 30 they may think u should be using it and not appling for benifits....

they got really strict they do house calls and ring the banks to check stuff...

If you have 30k in savings, you don't need supplementary welfare allowance, which is a payment to get you through until your claim is processed.

They will give you backpay for the weeks you wait.

I don't know if you're entitled to it (I'd be surprised if you are) but in all fairness - leave the CWO to deal with people who really have no other access to money to live day to day. Don't delay these people with your time wasting.

I dont think you will be refused a medical card for having 30k in savings. We got one this year and we have more than that from redundancy payout. It will be counted as means for your mortgage relief. There is definitely no point in trying to hide it.

But how do they know what you have in Shares or a Equity saving scheme.

If you just say you have nothing can they find out.

I was thinking about cashing in my 30K and keeping it in cash and saying I have no savings.?

That's fraud, and they can find out, and then you will be assessed with an overpayment and possibly prosecuted.
