about.com offers a set of multi-week lessons on HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript etc.

    http://www.w3schools.com/html
    http://www.w3schools.com/css
    http://www.w3schools.com/js
    http://www.w3schools.com/php

Above are resources for the various technologies on the w3schools site (written by the guys from the w3c - the makers of the standards for web technologies) which are good to have once you know what you're doing but not necessarily the best tutorial sites. That said if you read them in the order above they build up quite nicely into making a fully rounded web developer and so are a good tutorial from that point of view.

Lastly, type free web design tutorials into google and you'll get several million other sites :)

    Hope that helps.
    Regards,
    -RD
